Been looking to get my first Jeep and set on Willys pkg and most likely have to go pre owned. Been searching prices engines etc for months as I was waiting for taxes done to see what I could grab. That said, I recently put a deposit on a 23 extreme recon. Never even considered as I liked the look of the standard Willys pkg. I never figured to be going off road much but famous last words. That said, this one has lower mileage and priced lower than the standard Willys I’ve been seeing. It has the 3.6. Would I be a fool not to grab it? The factory pkg seems to be a great value provided I use this as intended. Ha

I would get the XR just for the better gearing. Factory 4.56 gears are awesome, add in the suspension, 35s tailgate reinforcement, and better brakes - it’s a no brainer IMO
Thanks that’s what I needed to hear. I was not crazy about the 3.6 as I really like the eco diesel and even the 2.0 for that matter, but seems like the Etorque in the 3.6 isn’t half bad.

Tons of info on here already about the value of the XR package. Short answer is yes go with it!
Thanks. I figured as much. Just needed some voices of reason.

For road-going folks, I'm going to recommend not-Rubicon and maybe not-Willys if it has the selectable locking rear end. Options like the auto transfer case and limited slip rear are assets for safety and usability in bad (paved) road conditions for the average driver.

With the Rubi XR, you're getting open diffs and the non-autotrac case. The 35's contribute to some more wandering and bounce going down the road. A set of good tires for it isn't cheap when they need replaced. 300-400 per tire if you're buying high quality stuff.

It looks awesome, it's the best out-the-box off-roader you can buy, it's even a good value in the used market. But do take that with a grain of salt for your intended uses.

Thanks. I never considered it but unless I’m missing something, it is priced well, actually below higher mileage Willys without the XR package. Worse case scenario I’d imagine if it wasn’t for me after driving it for a bit I could always sell it. I’d imagine these packages are tougher to find in the pre owned mkt.

Jeep Wranglers are not rare. I'll tell you the two worst primary reasons to buy a vehicle.

1. It's a good deal: Well, you better like the feel of driving a good deal. What does driving a "good deal" feel like 2 years later, versus the vehicle you actually wanted?

2. Lowest mileage: Sort of like driving a "good deal". Having low miles is temporary. I mean, yeah, low mileage generally means newer, more life left. But if you're talking a difference of 10k, 20k miles versus something you'd actually rather have? Low miles isn't a great reason.

These things are a dime a dozen, get what you want. Exactly what you want. Found an XR? Great, go drive it! But I personally wouldn't feel committed to it on paper unless I absolutely loved it.

So, it's priced lower than non XR models? Is it a Willys, Rubicon or Beach edition?

Make sure it's a true XR package and not one with a 2" lift and 35s. Lift quality can vary wildly, and no matter how much was spent on it, does not add to the value of a used Jeep.

On the quality part, it could be anything from a spacer lift, to a low content spring lift, or a full on complete suspension lift system. You need to know what you are getting.

Share the full specs of the vehicle, or post a link to it, and we'll help you out.

You are correct. Bring up good points. Thanks

If you want those 35” tires, and you want to carry the spare on a MOPAR reinforcement (as opposed to a better swing-out rack or whatever), $3,995 isn’t a horrible original surcharge. On the other hand, there are many, many aftermarket options, a 9” wheel allows many more other/bigger options, tires have to be replaced eventually anyway, and other spare-mounting options may be better for you.

Buy the jeep you fall in love with. There’s nothing wrong with what you’ve described here, but there’s nothing extraordinary either. I’d do as @Ratbert suggested. As inventories continue to climb we’ll be seeing better and better deals on new jeeps. They have new warranties too, which is something I value more than ever before.

Last thought: the Mahindra pressure may well push jeep to deliver on “Shortcut”. If you want a simple, capable, inexpensive jeep, that may be the winner. I already want one.

Yep, factory XR option. I'm guessing it's a Willys, since it states the 4 wheel drive sticker delete.

Another thing, new XRs are 2.0s. This one has a 3.6 eTorque. Both are great engines. But, if you're wanting a V6, this is Jeep is worth considering.

Check out the spreadsheet in my sig if you haven't yet.
Definitely takes look a this. If you have some time to wait for an order you’ll be very happy with the pricing. I ordered my XR Willys in July and took delivery in December. Ended up savng 9k off the sticker. With that being said. The market had changed and maybe your scoring a great deal from the Dealer. The only thing to consider with the XR is the additional height. If you have short people in the family it could cause some complaints ?. For me it just means more alone time with my Jeep.
