Before covid I used to visit the GTA a lot. I am familiar with your gas prices. I always filled up before crossing the border into Canada.and we are at 1.50/liter right now. was 1.10/liter when i picked it up in Oct. ya carbon tax
there are a bunch of different studies but I just base it off of one for fuel economy and not necessarily engine health. Specifically the one done by CAA in 2009.Block heaters dont need to be used unless its less then -20C.
In colder climates they put additives in the gas (winter gas) and it gives you worse mileage.
I ve had no squeaks or any noises up to -35C so far
Makes sense. I am no engineer but my understanding is that colder air is more dense therefore the engine operates more efficiently. But this increased air density decreases aerodynamic efficiency. Not a big deal for short drives. But on my long drive I think the aerodynamic hit was so significant because of the "brick" design of the Jeep. My other vehicles have taken a MPG hit on the highway due to winter gas but never as much the Jeep did on this recent trip (20ish down to 14mpg). And the wind noise was noticeably higher. All of this kind of surprised me. Maybe this cold air/mpg hit on the highway is exponential? It was -20 to -30F on this drive.there are a bunch of different studies but I just base it off of one for fuel economy and not necessarily engine health. Specifically the one done by CAA in 2009.
Colder than -10C you should see slight increase in fuel economy - especially for short drives. I just plug my block heater in whenever I park. It’s hooked up to a smart switch so I just turn it on with my phone/Alexa if I know I’m heading out. Max time you will see any benefit of a block heater is around 3 hours.
Good vid on the Rivian, or I guess not so good. I live 40 miles from their “Ike Gauntlet“. It is just a road to me. My office commute included a trip over that to and from the office pre-pandemic.I really want a diesel but just not a good idea for extreme cold...frozen DEF…gelling fuel. I actually put a deposit down on a Rivian RS1 about a year ago. Not sure that vehicle is going to work for me given the winters up here and my trips to northern Minnesota. That 300 mile range in normal temps will be 150 here in the winter. They tell me to expect delivery mid 2023 so I have some time to think about it lol.
I can tell you that now that I have (paid for) a 392 I am afraid to drive it at -30F…That's it. 14mpg is unacceptable the 1 week a year I road trip it in those conditions. The diesel won't work so I guess I need to get a 392!! It will stay in 8th.
It seemed to do really well. I have been over that pass many times and as you know that’s no piece of cake pulling a trailer. Of course 800+ hp and 900+ torque with no altitude power impact helps. The only problem is you practically have to recharge it on the other side.Good vid on the Rivian, or I guess not so good. I live 40 miles from their “Ike Gauntlet“. It is just a road to me. I was a little surprised about the Rivian…
Oh… I thought less than 80 mile range was not good. That would kill it for me. I pull that “pass” at least 100 times a year and many times with a loaded horse trailer. No way could I do that. I will stick to clearing frozen DEF MIL codesIt seemed to do really well. I have been over that pass many times and as you know that’s no piece of cake pulling a trailer. Here in Canada they correct our gas pumps to 65 degrees F in winter---effectively you get less gas than you pay for. So if it's freezing or whatever,, they extrapolate to what the volume of gas would be at 65 and then you pay the cost per litres times that amount. There's a certificate on the pumps in Ontario saying so.there are a bunch of different studies but I just base it off of one for fuel economy and not necessarily engine health.
