There seems to be a fair amount of interest about the expedition cargo shelf.

Here is a link to read up about it, the vendor is located in Warsaw Poland. FWIW, from shipping on 12/17 to arrival 12/20, 3 days from Poland to North Carolina that’s insanely fast.

On to the install, everything came well protected.

Started the install, I always check the hardware, there were missing parts. What was missing was the washers and lock washers. Thankfully I have a mix of spares that I was able to use. As to nuts and bolts, they were all there.

1st step is to remove two pieces of trim on the rear roll bar. Very easy to do with your hands.

Next mount the shelf brackets. Make sure the upper holes are aligned vertically, I left these loose until I installed the shelf

Now to mount the shelf. The nuts are 10mm, and an Allen wrench or Allen socket for the bolt. I used some small boxes to help hold it up. Also I used the second hole to mount the shelf (1 back from the front) this gives you the space between the front of the shelf and the roll bar

All in all, took about 30-40 minutes to do the total install. Put my recovery straps, tire repair and lug wrench on this. Also had a piece of carpet that worked on it. Bonus is I am still able to use my XG Cargo bags.

Nice install write up. Very similar setup I have with the side cargo bags too. Easy access all around. I like your idea about adding a carpet scrap up there since I have mounted a rotopax and compressor needing to protect items from the bolt ends.

I’ve sold my other Jeep and looking to reinstall my XG Cargo Gama Bags. I drilled two small holes in the upper frame and trimmed some of the Velcro to be able to zip tie some 90° aluminum as a bridge/lip from the passenger side to the driver to hold the back edge of recovery boards that are held in a Rightline Gear bag. The front edge is wedged between the hardtop and roll bar. Worked great and saved space.

I’m interested because these will work with the Gama bags but wonder how much space there is on the lowest bolt holes and my BougeRV 48qt cooler lid when it’s opened. It should be fine but figured I’d see if you had anymore to add. I also sleep on the passenger side cargo floor when the seats are down.

My setup is in here.

Really cool setup Daniel, it seems like you have seriously maximized your space… Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to help with your decision, I have a rough country shelf midway, and the expedition one up higher. For my XG bags, the middle shelf precluded the use of the metal bracket for my bags, so they are held in by the straps only. They are against the lower shelf, so I don’t feel there is any chance of them moving. Good luck and thanks for sharing your setup!

Sleeping platform?
Yes I accommodated for sleeping if I need to. I can fold the 60% seat down, insert two vertical braces and place the additional platform pieces (boards in the photo) on those to lay relatively flat.
