Excessive weights? Tire balance

You see a lot of this now that tire weights are no longer made of lead. They're 2x the size they used to be.

Counting 21 each 1/4 weights, plus 3 on the inside on the rim edge (on one wheel, others similar)

Question......are the stick on weights around or near 180° out or away from the clip on weights?

Yeah, my beadlocks have fewer weights. A good shop can probably redo that for $10.

Goodyear should of had the dots indicating highest point (red)
Lightest point (yellow)
Maybe have discount mark the tire centered on the weights and move that point inline with the valve stem.

at discount tire now. Tech said the yellow and red dots are a myth and not always present.

@Doublebleaaron, I'm glad to hear you are at the store to have them check the balance.

I apologize if the balance was not correct. The stores use road force balancing for all tires. Make sure you speak to the store manager just in case.

Lol I’m positive they are not a myth. I make discount tire line up the dots correctly and have no weights to 1/4 oz on my tires on all my vehicles. I also make them us a torque wrench. Discount tire being lazy. On my wife’s Jeep they didn’t line the spare tire dots and it have about 12 weights on the tire. Manager went out and had them pulled the spare off(only tire they didn’t line up) worker was mad about it but lined the yellow dot up to the sensor/valve stem and no weights. Yellow/red dots are not always present on cheaper tires.(that part is correct)

There were no dots in the tires, or they scrubbed them away

All I can say is balance beads. I am going to use them on my next rebalance on my bead locks. I have several wheels with lots of weights.

If the balancer did not make a mistake and all that weight is really needed, then the tire has a manufacturing defect. No way I would buy a tire that requires that much balance weight.

I used to work in an independent tire shop. I quit going to Discount Tire after many balancing issues and wheel damage. They work too fast, don’t re-clock the tire on the wheel if the weight is excessive and don’t care about your vehicle.

There are other tire stores out there that do a far better job. The number of weights On the OPs wheel tells me the tech was either lazy or improperly trained. Discount’s “appointments” mean nothing, as they still want you to drop it off for several hours.

Regardless of independent shop or chain shop, if you find a tire store that has good management and workers, stick with them. I found an Allen Tire Co. shop near me that has great management and workers. They get my business whenever possible.
