I know that what you are saying is correct but it’s just the disappointment that I am feeling after enjoying so many good years in Jeeps. Most of the issues I have been through as the saying goes it’s a Jeep thing right. Tell me do you know what the popular replacement batteries that are being used these days.
I got a pair of Super Start batteries from O’Reillys Auto Parts.

It’s been now two years; the Jeep works like a charm.

You are probably correct no doubt. This is my 5th Jeep my 4th 4 door unlimited. To tell you truth if I had known about this 2 battery system that controls the ESS and any other functions I certainly would not have bought it. After reading on this form all the headaches that this system can cause I am seriously thinking of getting rid of it, and to make matters worse the techs at the dealers can’t even fix them when anything happens. I am quite sure other makes have their issues also but nothing compared to what I have been reading here. Anyway love the Jeeps just can’t handle all the crap that seems to be on with the new ones.
Super easy to eliminate ESS headaches. There at least two simple ways and search this forum and you will find them. There are expensive options like mine where you buy and Genesis dual battery system but I mainly wanted that to have my added accessories on a separate battery and not expose the main.

Again, there is an easy way to disable the ESS without unplugging, installing, bypassing, rewiring or purchasing anything. After pushing the engine start button, move your hand over another few inches and push the ESS disable. This should be automatic if you hate ESS so much. Like muscle memory.

Wow... I can't fathom a pilot not pushing a required switch on takeoff. Some people make it their life's mission to do everything short of solving cancer to keep from pressing that damn little button.

Amazing.

How can I get to this page you are referring to that shows the ESS Status.
The up or down buttons on the left hand side of the steering column. It cycles through the vehicle's status pages. One of these is the ESS Status.

@Heinrich,

What pages does it have? My Cluster's Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) has the following:

- Digital speedometer
- Vehicle Status which includes:
• Tire Pressures
• Coolant Temperature
• Transmission Temperature
• Oil Temperature
• Oil Life (in %)
• Battery (really alternator output) voltage
- Gas Mileage including Range indicator
- Trip A and B Odometer and Time Driven
- ESS Status
- Infotainment Status
- Stored DTC Messages

Granted, my Sport is likely just a subset of what may be on a Rubicon. You may also have an off-road page as well.

I typically like having more non-redundant information displayed. So I (personally) have my EVIC set to the Gas Mileage page which also has the Range (Distance to Empty) or what I call the "Lie-O-Meter" which is nothing but a gross estimate of potential mileage per what volume of petrol is still in the tank. But it's based simply upon current estimate which is not always predictively accurate to future conditions.

Also, I wish the distance / volume (mine is set to miles per gallon or mpg) display would allow 100ths for precision, two digits to the right of the decimal point, instead of just one (tenths). This would provide a more real-time indication for either upward or downward mileage trending. But it does provide a simulated analog gauge which gives you pretty much the same derivative data.

Overall, the EVIC is one of the most enjoyable driving aids I've found in any vehicle. Some high end auto's may have fancier presentations, but the JL provides the most essential with the press of just a few up or down arrow buttons.

I can't imagine a Right Hand Drive cockpit would change any of that functionality.

Happy Jeeping.
Best Regards to the other side of the planet.
Jay

Instead of the left hand side of your steering wheel, yours is probably on the right side. :like:

Pressing the ESS button is NOT going to give your batteries extended life. The OE batteries are trash, ESS button or not.

The sooner you replaced those batteries with an aftermarket brand, the fewer problems you will have, and the greater peace of mind you will enjoy.
im still on my stock battery. Almost 5 years of ownership now with about 24k on the clock. My aux battery went out about two years ago. Recently my jeep was having a harder time starting. I did the aux bypass and now my jeep fires right up again. Once it goes ill get an tow package AGM.
