Hello All,

I’m new to the Jeep world and I had a question. I have a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 2.0 Turbo. Recently it has been making this weird pinging noise, ticking noise, not sure what to call it. It happens on start up and goes away after a couple minutes. Sometimes it won’t immediately make the noise but after 20 seconds it will start this annoying noise. I’ve changed oil and tried different octane of gas. It was happening before so it’s driving me a little crazy. Hard to hear in the video but if you listen towards the end you can hear it.

Does it idle down after it warms up?

Yes it does. Upon start up it’s very aggressive but then idles down pretty quickly but the noise stays for about a minute or so.

One of the main reasons I avoided the turbo....

Starting it, and also when accelerating, sounded like shaking a can of marbles

Yea that noise is annoying too but the other noise is terrible. Sort of like a plate with a fork just scratching it.

It's generally accepted that the 2.0T will sound mechanically busy during cold starts. That's been true since the day I took delivery; there's now 48K miles on the odometer. When the engine idles down a bit after a minute or so, it begins to sound less manic.

There's a lot of plumbing under the hood, not least of which includes the turbocharger and its ancillaries, as well as the 2K+ PSI direct injection fuel delivery hardware.

What's interesting is that, when fully warmed up and idling, the turbo 4 is easily one of the quietest engines I've owned.

Original owner here. The engine has been fed synthetic oil and 91 min octane since new.

I agree 100%. When warm it sounds hybrid! Thank you!

Both engines are a bit noisy, I was a little worried about my 3.6L but after walking through parking lots and hearing other Jeeps, my concerns were quelled.

My first thought was, that sounds horrible, take it to the dealership immediately!

After reading @Heimkehr post, it makes me think that the 2.0 is just a very complicated engine. I mean the EcoDiesel has a turbo too and it doesn't sound like that at all. Honestly it sounds like you got metal slapping on metal in a large relatively hollow chamber. i.e. It sounds horrible!

I'd love to get a two-door 2.0, but every time I read these threads about them, it just makes me think FCA took a basic engine block, and turned it into this insanely complicated, will explode if you don't torque it too spec engine.
