I'm the second owner of my 2022 JLU Sahara (2.0L engine) with around 33K miles. On my first trip, I noticed a tapping sound that seems to be coming from the engine compartment or possibly dash area. It's a metallic tapping sound that only happens: 1) when the transmission is in gear, 2) when decelerating, and 3) when the engine speed is around 1600-1700 RPM. Which sounds like a nitpick because I rarely notice it in normal driving, but it's very noticeable when coasting down a hill at certain speeds.

I've attached a video just after accelerating and I let off the gas--noise starts at 5 seconds (and you'll need to turn the volume up a bit to hear it).

Any guesses on what it might be? I'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow morning, but I'm fairly certain they're going to send me home next week saying they couldn't reproduce the issue in the parking lot.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no. I took it to the dealer in April and they (disappointingly) said they could not reproduce the issue after having the car for a week and >20 miles of driving. I did a ride-along with the head tech to demonstrate the sound which he acknowledged and documented.

I was about to hit my 36k mile warranty expiration, so I decided to take it in again let them have another swing at it. After another week with the dealer, this is their conclusion:

ROAD TESTED VEHICLE 32 MILES OVER SEVERAL DAYS IN A VARIETY
OF DRIVING CONDITIONS, CONFIRMED LIGHT TAP/TICK NOISE
PRESENT AS DESCRIBED BY CUSTOMER. TAP/TICK NOISE IS WITH-IN
NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR 2.0L TURBO ENGINE. 2.0L
TURBO ENGINE DOES PRODUCE SOME RATTLE/TICK NOISE. CONFIRMED
HAS NO EXHAUST LEAKS PRESENT, NO LOOSE HEAT SHIELDS OR
ENGINE COMPONENTS. ENGINE MAINTAINS PROPER OIL PRESSURE AT
ALL TIMES, HAS NO FAULT CODES PRESENT. NO VISUAL OR
REPAIRABLE CONDITIONS PRESENT AT THIS TIME
It's just out of warranty now, so I guess I just get to live with it. 🤷‍♂️
