I recently had my radiator replaced on a new ‘21 rubicon. I’ve also recently noticed this electric drill noise while idling in both park and drive. Sounds like it’s winding up then down. No performance issues. Just wondering if this is normal? Thank you in advance.

Seems to only happen after the engine has been hot and running

I barely hear it…perhaps my hearing is not so good…or you are hyper sensitive. The idle sounds normal to me…like mine.

Perhaps something was lost in the transition from real life to recording, but all I hear is an engine at idle. Nothing untoward is evident.

My Jeep has the V6, but my 124 Spider has the Fiat 1.4T. The noise you describe sounds like the intercooler running to cool down the turbo.

I hear it in my Spider after I turn off the engine; if the engine is really hot it will run for 10-20 seconds until the turbo cools down and then it shuts off automatically.

I do not hear it when idling, though. The noise is not loud enough to hear it over the engine running.

The noise didn’t translate to the video that well. It’s also possible that my hearing has become a bit sensitive to noise since I’ve already replaced the radiator. A fan or something to do w the turbo makes sense.
Although, I was just outside messin around and the noise intensifies when I turn the steering wheel. It’s lower when straightened but still comes and goes at regular intervals.

1.4L IC is air-cooled, the 2.0L IC is water-cooled

I hear it, my hearing is pretty sensitive though. Sounds like someone is getting a cavity drilled. Couldn’t tell you if it’s normal, don’t have mine yet. 😟

My 2.0 makes a lot of weird noises, even for a turbo engine. I seems like everytime I drive it, I hear a new noise.

In fact, the only complaint I have with the 2.0 is the noises.

Can you narrow it down? If it’s coming from the lower passenger side of the motor it is probably the intercooler water pump.

I can hear it in the video. Sounds like a very high speed electric motor.
is it an electric pump for the inter cooler?

Yes it is an electric water pump. I never really listened for mine when running. That being said I can hear it clearly after shutting the Jeep off

I couldn't bring up the video, but another source of a high speed fan might be headlights if you replaced them with an aftermarket solution that had its own cooling fan built-in.
