I have 715 miles on my Rubicon 392. I noticed a very loud ticking noise coming from the engine. I took it to my local dealership in Florida. They’ve had my Jeep for almost two weeks now. The service writer gave me an update this past Monday. He said they are going to replace the rockers and tappets. If they find more defective parts while replacing them he said they might have to replace the engine. Has anyone else had this issue?

Just need a louder exhaust.
Has the sound always been there or did it just start out of the blue? Checked oil level?
Sure it's not just the fuel injectors? I've had a few that were loud as hell.

Ha, or turn up the radio….
When I first got it the engine sounded a bit different than I am accustomed to. I had a 2015 Grand Cherokee SRT with the same engine and a 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The noise gradually got worse and even my wife who knows nothing about engines said something after she drove my 2024 392. The oil level was good.

If I let mine sit for a few days and start it up I get the tick until oil pumps up the tappet/lifters then goes awY. otherwise no unusual noises.

As long as the dealer takes care of it under warranty I would not worry about it

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would be happy to connect you with a case manager for extra support while your vehicle is at the dealership. Please send us a private message with your VIN.
