Posted in ecodiesel about gearing but have another gearing question and thought I would start here. Most say with 37 on eco stock 3.73 are fine. I can get a set of 4.10 from a stock rubi for free and wondering of course it would be better but is it a waste of time to not go 4.88+ if I’m going into the axles.
thanks all

4.88s on a diesel would be terrible unless you are planning on 40s or 42s.

4.10s are probably perfect for 37s, but most people don't bother because of the cost vs the amount of change. If the gears are free, you are still $1500ish into a re-gear by the time you pay labor and purchase the master rebuild kits.

We are running 37's on our eco diesel and we regeared to 4.56's and I'd do it again in a heart beat. We live in Colorado and tow an off-road trailer so we definitely noticed a difference. We ran for approximately 10k miles on 37's with 3.73 gears and it wasn't bad.

Used gears are not a good idea. It's nearly impossible to set them up exactly the same way as the axle they came out of. And if you don't get it right the gears can have problems.

No shops will install used gears. Anyone who does install them won't warranty them.

Saving a few bucks on the gear set isn't worth it.

☝ - plus having them isotropic finished for ~ $125 per set eliminates the break in heat cycles and they run a little cooler. Will at East Coast Gear Supply sent them to Gear FX for finish, them to me, no extra hassle.

Don't waste your time I run 4.88 abd 37's in my sports S eco and its perfect gear. I run 4.63 in my Rubi and its great gear also both eco's run stock 3.73 with 37's in my Jlurd and its not an issue unless towing a bigger trailer then there a little weak but everyday driving and offroad are ok
