If you remove this “L” plastic door frame bracket and put the soft top back down, will it work? Can you drive like this? Will the soft top be secure? Assuming doors off of course.

I would try it myself, except my Jeep is still being built... :CWL:

I will have half doors and wonder if this would work.

This what I’m thinking...

My Jeep will be like this but with half doors. I want to get rid of this vertical section when I have the sides open like this.

I want it to be more open like this.

So I’m thinking to buy an extra set of these plastic door surrounds, and just use the top horizontal part and trim the vertical stub sticking out.

what do you think?

I think you should try it and report back. I cant see why it wouldn't work as long as the track is there.

Taking it all the way off does "work". Its a more naked look that i like. Its just another step that is like 8 bolts and 4 minutes. I secure mine with wide velcro straps. No, you cannot put the top up. And the arm ends that would be attached at the rail kind of point up in the air in a dangerous looking manner, but the back seat occupants won"t make contact.

Thank you all for chiming in.

:) I do plan to try it out... once I get the Jeep I ordered. Ha ha. I think it’s fully built. Just stuck for two weeks already waiting for half doors to be thrown in the trunk before Jeep ships it to dealer.

In any case maybe I didn’t explain it clearly. This is what I’m thinking:

The idea is to drive like this with the top ON but all sides off.

If you cut that, you will not be able to put the top back on with the side windows.

This is excellent. I never even considered removing this piece, but it makes the rear of the four-door much more open.
