I've gone through soft deep ruts in NE FL with 30 lbs with no issues MT 35" Legends. Common sense - look ahead and see what's coming up. If you're blazing a new trail, air down to be safe. Hard to do on vacation but at home I use my air compressor and long wand nozzle to blow out the sand while it's dry - lots of nooks to hide in.

Here on our little sandy island we drive year round on the sand; typically a few times a week.

assuming the sand is soft, dry, and deep there is absolutely no reason to not air down to 15-20. I typically do 12-15 and - knock on wood - I’ve never gotten stuck in my low trim 2019 JLU. Only caveat is I would not drive at highway speeds with very aired down tires.

4w high is fine. I turn traction control off. So also put the tranny into manual mode and get up to 3rd gear as soon as I can.

to clarify some wheel spin is normal. Digging yourself into a hole when stuck is something to avoid .

bring a small (or large) shovel and - if you have some - traction boards. The law of the universe is once you buy traction boards you will never need them.

Trust me as someone with a wife and 2 kids all of whom are eager to get to our final spot on the beach, airing down in the middle of the ride is not fun. The engine is hot, the sand is hot, the bugs are out and the natives are restless.

Some great videos on the tube to watch on sand driving. Mostly Aussies who know sand.

momentum is your friend: don’t dig holes . Back out of any stuck situations and you will be fine

I don't even air down anymore. 4 Hi and traction control off will serve you well. That said, the sand can change conditions and some days will be easier than others.

My wife and I have been to Hatteras. I aired down to 25 psi and put it in 4Hi. Didn't have any problems. Also, bring a shovel. Wash the undercarriage...salt is a bitch.

25 lbs is fine. Use 4 wheel high only. Press Off Road setting. Hold traction control button down for 5-10 seconds until traction control is fully off. Press rear diff lock only down to engage. I feel it's best to set this stuff up before you need it. 4 wheel low is terrible for the beach as the ratios are too low/slow for this use. Momentum is your friend especially going up a dune or any rise off the waters edge. If anything happens go to 12 lbs and you are going to get out of anything.

I have never aired down and have never been stuck in the sand, stock wheels and tires. Most of my beach driving is where other vehicles have already passed, so I just stay in the tracks, no issues. I used to launch and retrieve a jet ski on the beach and learned that the biggest obstacle is if you have to go uphill. You won't get stuck because you can always back out of it, but you may not get up even the tiniest hill without some momentum.

I go to Cape Cod Race Point every year and I air down to 15 PSI and use 4Hi and go nice and slow !

In Cape Cod, we need to obtain an ORV permit and need to have a few things (see below). Check with the location were you are going to to make you bring everything that is required.

Enjoy the Beach!
