Check your build sheet and you may find that you have a block heater. Apparently all Canadian keeps have it as part of the ‘cold weather group’.

You can put it on a timer so it only comes a couple of hours before.

yes its true.

Carbureted engines required pressing the gas pedal all the way down and release to close/set the choke. If you drove off/touched the gas before it was warmed up enough......the choke releases and it stalls and you will not likely get the choke to close again without flooding. Also the choke reduces air in the fuel mixture making the fuel mixture richer.

Injected cars nowadays richen the fuel by adding more fuel instead of reducing the amount of air in the mix.
As the article states........letting it run at increased RPM is just dumping more fuel in it to keep it going in the cold.
You can let it run for 30 secs and drive easy until its warmed up. The idle will gradually decrease sooner and it won't stall.
