This sounds interesting to try for when I’m in the sand dunes. Donuts in the sand = cabin filter full of sand!! I try to keep it on recirculate, but it keeps switching and dumping sand into the system. I have sand all the way through the vents to the back row… 🤦🏼‍♂️
That being kicking out of recirculation mode when it feels like it, is the main reason I am happy with outside air being disabled. If I want outside air, I'll crack my windows or go topless.

It would be great if Joe @zautomotive could change the programming on this for us!

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but if I was single, I would scrap my AC/system entirely.

As it is, I only run the heater to defrost the windows, and occasionally on really cold days to keep my legs warm driving to work before sunrise.

My AC condenser currently has a nice hole in it and my system is dry of oil and freon, so to stop the AC from coming on when the defroster runs, I removed the AC compressor fuse.

Texas winters are already dry enough, that running the heater without the AC doesn't create enough condensation to affect my visibility.

I read a few threads searching out why some smell odors in hard acceleration. Others complain of outside air interference with cabin air. I only seen the outside air be a problem for cold weather driving. Nobody wants being half child and half toasty.

I corrected what few issues I found in one quick fix. Glad I did before cold weather really sets in.
Chilled bro!

You little sugarbooger. 😁

I'm thinking it gets HOT AF down there in Texas.

If you were single, wouldn't you want to take your kids (unless you think kids are some byproduct of being married) / girlfriend / mom / dad / whoever on those amazing trails to show them what it's all about? There are so many amazing places that the majority of the population lacks access to and is typically clueless that it even exists.

That's why I can't.
I do want to use the Wrangler as a family vehicle to travel with, and there's no way in hell my wife or grandkids are going to hop in a Wrangler and drive across the country in the middle of summer without AC.

This past summer, I didn't take my dad on my August of my off-roading trip because it was too hot, and I didn't have AC. He said he was cool with it, but at 75 years old, I wasn't going to allow it, also my mom told me it was a bad idea. Last thing I want to be is responsible for my dad having a heat stroke, for suffering from heat exhaustion spending 8 hours in my Wrangler with no AC. As it is I basically spent the whole day sweating in the Jeep.

It's not so bad though, you get used to it.

It's like I always say, just roll down your windows, and if hot air is blowing in your face, it just means you're not going fast enough! 😜 ;)

"Not going fast enough" is a given when rock crawling in Utah's deserts. Holy crap, it can be hot out there.

Not much has been talked about this mod. Only a few words about it being one of the best mods done.

I decided to search and find a post about disabling the outside air vent. After trying it myself for a few days.... it is awesome!

I'll explain what I have experienced with the mod and it's small short comings.

Early morning 50° F and lower.... defrost does not blast hot air like it did before. It's blended with ambient air in cabin. It does defrost but will take a minute longer to function as before.

The mod sets forced air recirculation to combat the automatic opening of outside air vent at intervals. No matter the setting air recirculation is always on.

No more stinky smells in hard excelleration, no more cold or hot air from outside being released under dash, no more imbalance of cabin temperature.
I ABSOLUTELY would NOT do this. The defroster will work much better with fresh air, especially in the winter.

When you get into the Jeep with snowy boots, that water on the floor mats evaporates and creates a very humid environment inside the Jeep. This makes it MUCH more difficult to defrost the windshield in the winter. In fact, when the defroster is on the AC compressor is also on, to help dry out the inside cabin air.

I see no problem with the mod. 2 weeks now. Also having rain and 30 degree weather. If windows fog defrost kicks in with A/C and drys it up. Had a waterfall into the foot well... every jl owner complains of rain gutter. Water puddle with floor and instrument panel heat, no problem.

All I can say cabin environment is more stable with the mod. Yes, about a minute slower to start defrosting well. But no other car with cabin filter is as fast as a JL on heating up. IMO nothing lost with the mod.

It's very interesting choice in mods. Do you have a picture of the plug by any chance?

Just to confirm that I'm pulling the right thing when I end up doing this mod.

Can't you retrofit the changed gutters?
I guess there are options both factory and aftermarket. Just the issue is the least of my worries for upgrades at this time.

Probably prudent to get a carbon monoxide monitor if you're going to do this.

I've driven many different cars from 60s to recent. The ones without cabin filters seemed more sealed than of cars with cabin filter. Some did not have flow through vents. Yet CO was never a problem. Even though there are well sealed cars, none are totally sealed. Even with fresh air vent is closed, it's a loose fit, just to limit air flow through. With soft top and window channels, I doubt anyone will suffocate.
