We've hit 110+ 34 days so far this Summer. Any Phoenicians on here? How are your Diesels handling the heat? There'll still be plenty of triple digit days once my JLURD is delivered.

BTW, even with the record heat, the COVID is not deterred. So much for that theory.

I haven't noticed temperatures exceeding 220 F, but I'm not towing and have been quite restrained in my driving while outfitting my baby.

They just run warmer than we are used to. I don't drive the Jeep much, but I went and put diesel in it tonight and drove it around.

Outside air temp around 75
Cold/warm engine (had been off for 4 hours, and only ran 15 minutes)
After I finally found the right screens, I saw coolant temps of 200-210. This was just driving around near the house on 30 mph roads.
The temperatures shown on/in the Jeep information center deal, matched what the scangauge was showing me.

I'm sure the ScanGauge is using the same source (sending unit) for temperature that the Off-Road gauge is using, so it's reasonable to assume the numbers would be the same. What needs to be done is verify the temperature from an entirely different source to validate or not the accuracy of the digital gauge.

After my little experiment scanning with IR, I'm starting to think the digital gauge is full of shit. I'm not going to go to all the trouble to install a third gauge but what I will do is carry my IR and take frequent readings under different conditions to get an understanding of what's going on with the digital gauge.

What would be cool is if someone made a BlueTooth wireless unit for this application that would send data to a phone app.

Ok, just now, offroad gauge was at 210, IR was 172°f. You could put your hand on the hoses and radiator.

The Off-Road temp gauge is bogus.

That’s some pretty good info and helps to settle my worries a bit but not completely. I would still like to know what the parameters are.

I had the coolant reading 250 going up a highway in AZ here around 90 degrees AC on. The gauge actually jumped to about 3/4 of the way. I think it was 230-250 the gauge moved finally

That’s very interesting and also the first report I’ve heard of someone seeing the bar gauge move above the halfway mark

Some additional detail would be helpful, such as, are you in stock configuration, were you towing? Either way, it doesn't sound good, but did you feel compelled to stop and allow the Jeep to cool down, or did you press on to your destination? 219 is the highest I've seen so far and I'm still stock.

Bone stock no towing. It was 80mph at about 3k rpm wouldn't go any faster. It stayed at 3/4 and as soon as I reached the top and dropped rpms it cooled right down.

Little hot but didn't seem abnormal. My 2018 Jeep SRT did the same thing holding high rpms up the same hill.

Weird gauge on this Jeep though. Seems it sits under halfway to tell you it is "normal range" which is like 110-220

Offroading with AC in 110+ weather only the transmission went over that half way mark for me but just barely.

Are you saying that the top speed is 80 mph? Not that I would exceed that speed, but I expected the top end to be right around 100 - like the gas-powered engines. If so, that's surprising.

That seems odd to me, as I drove across Colorado on I-70, albeit cooler weather, and I could easily accelerate to 90 mph on the uphill grades and the ecodiesel still had more to give.

Top speed is 96. This was going up the 87 to Payson. Most uphills it does fly right up to 90.
