wife is looking to get out of her Q5 and is all over the place with what she wants. from a Sahara to Outer Banks Bronco to X3 to 330i. checked out Volvo and Mercedes as well. of the 5 dealers we have visited in the last two weeks, only Jeep had stock. well, and Volvo had a few new options but everyone else was either waiting on inventory or said to order what you want.

my local Jeep dealer is discounting Wranglers now. and they have a ton on the lot. I have no plans to get rid of my JL, but i'm assuming the value is not where I expected it to be. I'm aware of the refresh coming on the 24's but we are a ways away from them. Did Wrangler sales drop off that much?
Our website is showing 97 Volvos on the lot currently, including used which is a small percentage. Factory has been shoving them at us for 3 months. Rovers are scarce, we have some, but some models are 16-18 months out. Jags are thin, but there's some. Acura, Mercedes, we have some stock. Porsche is a little thin, but we have some.

Our stock levels are up a lot versus this time last year. Still not full, but it's better.

Man that is a seriously broad group of vehicles running from one extreme to another. Strongly suggest she Seriously drive what she’s interested in a good bit before spending the $$$. Most BMW, Volvoor Mercedes buyers wouldn’t touch a Jeep with a stick?. Be SURE momma’s happy with the choice she makes or you’ll be trading in a few months and loose $$$. A lot of folks like the “look” of a Jeep but hate living with one day in, day out. (Hence those low mileage current model year jobs haunting the used care lots for other brands). If she really thinks a Jeep is for her, rent one and let her live with it for a couple weeks-money well spent if she decides it’s not for her..
100%. Take her to your local Carmax and have her drive as many as possible to narrow it down.

What's the name of the Jeep dealership that has a bunch on the lot. I would prefer a 2023 over a 2024.
My dealer (Central 44 Raynham MA) has 125 2023 Wranglers on the lot & on the way (104 - 4Xe; 26-20th Aniv Rubi 4xe) ?

Can't forget that Wranglers are more of a fun car than a practical car. During the last few years when remote work was predominant, people didn't mind buying fuel-inefficient, storage-lacking, comfort-less vehicles (all relative to other vehicles obviously) since they didn't need to commute 100 miles a day in them. Now that businesses are wanting to have absolute control over their slaves workers again people are reverting to their past habits/preferences.

Also, Jeep dropped just about everything during this period to keep up with demand for for the Wranglers and Wagoneers to keep margins as high as possible.

As some said, interest rates have killed purchasing and really depends on location. In my area you can see about 5 on a lot, if you're lucky, and most are basic at best.

Oh, I don't know about that. We own two BMW's, a Z4 m40i and an X3 m40i, also have a highly modified Tacoma. We still love the JLUR for it's unique capabilities.

I don't disagree on the rental advise if this is to be her only daily driver. We have plenty of choices, so we can choose something else when the mood strikes us.

As others have said, there are lots of factors:
  • Interest rates going up cause sales to go down
  • Jeep pricing. There were several price increases throughout 2021 and 2022. The same Jeep with the same options in 2023 vs 2021 is several thousand $$ more expensive.
  • 2023 was a spectacularly short model year run, and 2022 inventory was constrained. So you likely had dealers place a lot of 2023 orders (cause inventory opened up and rates hadn't risen too much yet) and by the time those orders were delivered, you have high interest rates, the end of the model year, AND the announcement of the 2024 refresh all within a short time frame
I think if you wanted a 2023, now's probably the best time to get one - heavy inventory, dealer motivation, and you can always refinance pretty easily if/when rates drop.
”You can always refinance….” Not good advice, that’s a salesperson tactic. Maybe on a house or something but on a car, meh.

Half the inventory on my Jeep dealer’s lot is unsold leftover 2022 models.

He has a collection of Wranglers, Gladiators, Grand Cherokees, Wagoneers and Compass with “2022” plastered on the windshield.

They are a bunch of dickheads over there, so that may have something to do with it... ?

Sounds like my wife, she wants a new vehicle to replace her 2013 Honda Odyssey. When you ask her "what she wants".... One week it is a Wrangler, next week a Wagoneer, next week a Mustang Mach-E, or maybe one of the last Hemi Chargers. When I got my JLU I knew exactly what I wanted the only issue was finding a good price.

Ahh, don't be so sure about that...I have owned several BMW's for over 20 years, still have one and a Porsche, too...ALL with manual transmissions...and not only do I "touch a Jeep with a stick" I love driving my JL "with a stick" when I'm not in the Porsche...or BMW. ? I think the "un-livability" of a Wrangler as a daily driver is way overblown, and a misrepresentation, but that's just me. Recently, I had the need to drive my Porsche & JL back-to-back - getting out of one right into the other - and it really hit me just how cool each was - yes quite different from one another, but both very enjoyable to drive - every day! ?

Ford, Chevy and Toyota have stock. I don't think stock of Volvo has much to do with Jeeps or MB for that matter.

We have dozens of Volvo's and that is Alaska! Never buy a Volvo though, lease or don't get period.

I've been in that place a couple of times over the past 8 months....they can't sell Jeeps because they have been doing their best to get customers off their lots due to their pricing. So we all left.....
Autonation in Katy following the same plan. Tried to buy a 4xe Rubicon there in January. They tried the old salesman / sales manager tag team crap. I asked for their best deal they could make, it was over MSRP by several thousand. They got upset when wife and I started leaving. Later that night got a text from them asking what they could do. I said “nothing, already bought a jeep from another dealer.”

Ended up buying from Mark Dodge in LOUSIANA. Easiest car purchase I have ever made. They actually came out the gate with a fair deal and made it better with minimal effort on my part.

So sad that these dealers still think they have a captive and desperate audience.

amen to that. I've leased two JK wranglers alongside an AMG C43 coupe, 435 M sport, and an Alfa Romeo. As fun as the sports cars & sedans are,... the Wrangler is just a different type of fun and (in my opinion) an equally competent daily driver and in many cases more practical.

yeah, I had both BMW(sold it for Tesla recently) and Porsche(still have the 718) but didnt stop me from wanting a JLUR...There is no other car out there from any company(besides the New Bronco) that can really compare to a Jeep....I like a nice veriety with my cars

Interest rates, high prices, gas prices and the new Bronco are why lots are now full of Wranglers...My local dealer used to have about 4-5 on the lot, now they have about 10-15 sitting there, most of them 4Xe....Jeep still outsales the new Bronco, but it is close and it's obvious they are eating into Wrangler sales
