Bought my 13 year old daughter her first car this week. A 2018 JLU Sport. She’s always loved my jeeps and is headed to a technical high school in the fall, possibly to study automotive tech. I figured what better way to learn, than to have a vehicle she loves to work on.

probably not a huge amount of stuff being done to it to start. She always like the rubicon suspension setups on my previous sports, so we may go that route first. Personally I voted lift w/35s, but I’ve been outvoted by my wife lol

I was lucky enough to have older brothers who had done the same for me, pretty much a field car. Unfortunately my dad died when I was 5 but he had done the same for them between go karts and field cars. The bottom line is that if I wanted to drive it I had to learn how to work on vehicles with them. I did get my farm permit at 16 here in NJ but I would always drive the field car at night to the gas station where my brothers worked at to put gas in it.
Worst damage ever done was at first when learning to drive a stick and I panicked and drove into my Italian next door neighbors tomato garden which was a sin! Guess who spent a lot of time next door helping (and learning) for my mistake
Great color choice too!!

It’s a great way to learn. I learned on the back roads and in the fields.

Yes. Till she can legally drive it. But I live on a dirt road where she is learning already
So smart. My son became a very good and confident driver much faster than my oldest daughter, I think, because he was experienced from driving our friend’s golf cart for so long. It look my oldest daughter quite a bit longer to be a confident driver.

I like the color, too!

I'm running the OEM steelies with Rubicon-sized 285/70r17 General Grabber ATx. I'm thinking of going in a different direction in the medium term, and will be putting the wheel/tire combo for sale, and probably the front steel MOPAR bumper too (going lighter as I'll be installing a winch soon).

Hit me up via PM if your daughter's and your Jeep journey takes you in this direction by any chance.

Tell her to enjoy the process and drive safe from all of us - the more good Jeepers, the better!

The earlier to start them, the better off they'll be in the long run. All my kids have either grown up or are still growing from learning on quads and dirt bikes. Golf carts are typically on sunday. I have one driving on a permit now and one still to get there. Good on the OP getting yours going early too!

I'm just thinking ahead for my own daughter (maybe way too much ahead... she's 16 months!), and some things that could be a good starting place for me are, in no particular order:
  • Get adjustable trackbars and control arms and install them with her (if she ever ends up wanting to do a lift, she'll be just springs and shocks away from that) and then teach her how to do a toe and caster alignment on the Jeep
  • Get a steering stabilizer relocation bracket and install that with her
  • Do a full tire rotation and oil change routine
  • Get and install a Genesis Dual Battery system (makes you take apart a good chunk of the left side of the engine bay, so she'll what's what around there)
  • Upgrade the lights to LEDs (OEM or aftermarket)
  • Install a gas cap cover
  • On the interior, maybe get and install armorlite, sound assassin strips or similar that makes you work together to remove the seats and floors
  • Replace the exhaust with a high-clearance aftermarket one
This in my mind would cover a lot of the non-engine stuff - I still haven't thought much about that area.
