Complete throttle dip

You never mentioned if you changed the fuel filter. It’s supposed to be changed at 10k miles.

Wouldn't hurt to check but the manual says oil changes at no more than 10k, drain the fuel filter at 10k, and replace fuel filter every other oil change.

I would really hope a fuel delivery problem would result in a CEL but most of the things we're suggesting he check should... hope it's not a fuel pump on its last leg.

i hope its not a fuel pump too, but i will cross that bridge when i come to it. I'll check that fuel filter, i know the 10k mile service was done and I'm not quite at 20k miles.

After you button it back up it's gonna take several prime cycles and it's still not want to start. Once it does let it idle for a bit, don't rev it.

So checked the fuel filter, not awful condition, but ordered a new one to be safe. Im now beginning to think it may be that harness on passenger side, had some family crisis last night and hope to check it this afternoon..... hopefully its not too late. Had a friend ride with me last night, replicated the issue, and maybe transmission related. i forget how quickly the 8speed can shift when it needs to and it could be slipping gears or... clutch packs i suppose.

I didn’t read the whole thread, have you taken it to the dealer? To me this doesn sound like a fix it yourself deal. Sure it could be something easy like the harness thing folks are mentioning, but I’d take it in as many times as need be to get them to recreate the issue. Either that or I’d trade it in on another (assuming you still like it).

Honestly at this stage in my life I’d just trade it off and move on.

Ha, no my appointment is still monday morning. In days gone by i would have just traded it off too, but ive only had it about 6 months and i still like it.

This is jeep #7, and first one ive had issues with, suppose i beat the curve on that.

Gotcha. I usually keep my vehicles for a much longer time than you. I’m 45 and I’ve only owned 10 with a few of those being rigs my wife drives (and we still own 4 of them!).

If any issues were to arise I‘d usually fix them myself or use it as an excuse to upgrade. But what you’re describing would have me pulling that eject lever for sure. I mean no codes and the simple stuff doesn’t remedy it? Gone!

since it’s a diesel, almost any problem making power is going to be fuel related.

starting with the basics, i’d be sure i had good clean fresh fuel in it, drain the water from the fuel filter/system, and try a fresh fuel filter before looking much further.

I know that the suggested interval for fuel filter replacement is 20K miles, but I did mine at 10K.

That is an impressive number of cars. I’ve only had 3 but they were all Jeeps. ‘91 Cherokee, ‘99 TJ now this ‘22 JL. The only reason I have to JL is some idiot plowed into my TJ and destroyed it.

Trust me, this isnt a good thing. Lot of cars i regret getting rid of. 95 grand cherokee, 09 wrangler, 14 grand cherokee, 16 wrangler, 20 gladiator, 21 wrangler now..

I wrapped that wire loom next to the exhaust. And its stopped slipping. For now.

so. i narrowed the problem down, or at least figured out how to predict it. Its between 3/4 gear and 4/5... and now its not doing it anymore. Wrapped the wire loom near the exhaust with heat shield AC tape... and now i can not recreate the problem. Which im ok with. i been puttin my foot in it hard for 2 days tryin to recreate the problem with no results. Any thoughts? was this a transmission issue? surely if that wireloom is the issue someone at Jeep should be aware. Thoughts?
