Long Story.........

I've had lots of engine issues in the past and I've always fixed them myself. I was contacted by Jeep about the clutch recall and finally Jeep is going to replace the clutches. I figured why not if it is free. I contact the dealership and set an appointment. Jeep gets dropped off for appointment for the clutch replacement and 4 days later they contact me and tell me the slave cylinder is blown and it was that way when I dropped it off. Mind you I drove it in there which is impossible to do with a blown slave cylinder. Dealer tries to charge me $600 to fix it even though all they need to do is connect the hose and bleed it. It is already removed because they are changing the clutch. I tell them not to worry about and end up towing it home and doing it in my driveway.

After completing the slave cylinder repair, I drive less than a mile and the dash says SERVICE TRANSMISSION and goes into limp mode. I turn around and before I get home it reads CLUTCH HOT FULLY RELEASE CLUTCH PEDAL AND REDUCE CLUTCH USE. Tried calling dealership but they close early because it is Saturday. I've never seen either of these messages before and figure its part of the new firmware upgrade. Anybody deal with these messages before or after completing the recall?

I know its going to be an argument because if they couldn't admit they busted the slave cylinder there's no way they are going to take responsibility for this.

Any help would be appreciated. @JeepCares

EVIC Displays: SERVICE TRANSMISSION

---> New service procedure for Jeep JL and JT users with manual transmission.

Whenever you replace your clutch or any clutch components you need to run:

With JSCAN:

PCM - Clutch Replacement EEPPROM Reset Procedure - this procedure is required otherwise vehicle will be limited to 30 mph (Limp Mode) and will display Service Transmission message on the instrument cluster.

No Trouble Codes on PCM or other modules, just message on the dash and limited vehicle mobility.

NOTE/Important: Occasionally Service Transmission message may show up after battery disconnect or other service procedures without any clutch related work.

So, was your slave cylinder bad? Lots of limp mode info in the clutch recall thread about this.

Mistake #1 was bringing a running Jeep into the dealer. Mistake #2 was letting them do the clutch recall. The new firmware is known for these error messages, and unfortunately there is no reverting back. This has been happening since last year.

When I picked it up it had 2 cuts in it. Can’t really prove anything either way but it was not that way when I dropped it off. I had the whole conversation with a friend that they were going to try and charge me for something and they did. I really can’t even get upset about it because I knew it was going happen before I dropped it off. It’s just the state of how Jeep dealerships work.

I was just about to consider taking mine in for the clutch work, ( cause its "free" :CWL: ) but then you jogged my memory back to the fact that they can't even do an oil change without screwing something up. (see mistake #1) I'll ride with this one till it takes a dump and go with a Centerforce.

I’ve had 2 Centerforce clutches. The first lasted 40k miles and always had issues. Centerforce did a revision and the 2nd I put in was better but still had issues going into 1st at a stand still. The throw out bearing went bad in the 2nd at 25K miles.

Wow, do you think the ACT system is a better choice?

I don’t know anyone that wheels an ACT clutch but did have a bar conversation with a guy that said he uses ACT clutches in his drift cars and made a lot of great points as to why they would work well for rock crawling.
He also said he didn’t know about the lifespan of them because the way they use them they have to change them out pretty often.

Hi there,

Please send our team a private message and we can connect you with a case manager for extra support alongside the dealership.

And the problems continue……..

I drove the Jeep back to the dealership in limp mode and was told that they needed to bleed the slave cylinder in order to figure out why the service transmission message came up. They said it would be $255 to bleed and I said whatever just get it done. They go to bleed it and find out the seals leaking into the boot. The first one I got from auto zone had a bad bleeder valve so I just went ahead and overnighted a slave cylinder from Centerforce because there were no OEM ones available. They install it and bleed it and still the same message. I sent them the info about the jscan fix and let them know the cable and MX+ is in the center console. 3 days later I call them and they said they talked to Jeep engineering and want to replace a sensor on the rear axle for $1200. I tell them no thanks and limp the jeep back home. I do the jscan fix and all is well, except the old limp that I thought I fixed where it loses power when it is under load and I’m in 5th gear came back. Not really limp just loss of power where I have to down shift to 4th then can’t above 60ish when traveling up the slightest hill. I’ll start another thread to address that issue. #jeeplife
