It is sloppy compared to my JK. I have experienced the lock issue once, and my wife reported it to me once. When it happened to me a bit of force turned the wheel and it was gone. It wanders but so did my JK, but it is definitely sloppier than the JK. This does not mean I don't love this car and believe it is the best Wrangler to date. You want tight steering go get a Mustang!

I have 4.5” lift and upgraded to a steersmart flipped draglink. That being said it drove okay before when stock, but much better with the upgraded draglink

After installing my aftermarket steering stabilizer and straightening the steering wheel (it was left of center) I had it aligned. The shop that did the alignment stated that cars/trucks that get strapped down for shipment "always" need an alignment. Low and behold, mine did too!

Drives straight, no wandering, turn in is crisp. Compared to my JKUR and TJ this one handles great.

stock, with rubicon rims and tires. The only problem I have is right in the early morning I get on the freeway less than a mile from my house it seems to sometimes lock up. I live in California where its typically 40 degrees in the AM, still scary when you turn but the wheel doesn't move.

2018 JL does not steer like a sports car but, it runs straight and does not wander to any real issue.

Toe.... is the the only adjustment on a solid axle without adding additional parts (control arms, track bar). What did they align?

Mine is a bit wandery, but not that bad really. I may ask the delaer to adjust alignment to add some positive toe if any is available within factory spec. Apparently factory wetting for Toe angle is .20 degrees +/- .20 degrees meaning you may have neutral toe setting from the factory.

Mine had been awesome (after I reduced tire pressure from the dealership) until I hit 17K. My death wobble is getting progressively worse. Stabilizer is in, taking it to dealership Monday, although I think it will just be a bandaid to mask the real problem.

Hi Bswen,

We are terribly sorry to hear that your Jeep is exhibiting these concerns. Please send us a private message with your VIN and mileage so that we can document this further.

Had a few death wobbles - took to the dealer - they updated software, said it should fix the issue, and will report back if it does not.

Right at 500 replies to the poll and 40% of people are not happy with their steering. That is HORRIBLE!!!! Wake up Jeepcares!!! I'm one of the 40%...very NOT happy. Was told that since everything is "in spec" there was nothing else that could be done.

Ask 500 people to bought Grand Cherokees, or Dodge products (or any other vehicle for that matter)...I bet you don't get anywhere near 40% who think their vehicle has steering issues / problems.

I had a 2017 Ram Power Wagon before my JL. Steering was basically the same geometry...just bigger components...and it drove GREAT!!!

Don't tell me the JL's can't be fixed to drive they way they should. If they can do it with a 2500 with a solid axle, they could do it with a JL!!!

Having test driving a JK, I would have to say there is a mild improvement of that series. However, I would still call the JL steering loose compared to other cars and trucks. I was thinking it may be a matter of alignment, a bit more toe-in might solve the problem.
