So in my process of swapping out the chrome lug nuts and fugly wheel locks to black gorilla nuts, I noticed the fancy shmancy XR wheels have a "quick sprayed on paint" where you can see none of the coloring goes to the rim side of the wheel (Backside flat circular portion) That's ok, I guess was my thinking until I went to swap out the lug nuts on the spare tire and noticed they don't even get any paint where the bolt recesses are. I guess I am used to the finish quality of aftermarket wheels and never had to think about this. When I stood back to admire my work (All while brushing my hair back with my reflection in the rear glass with a Fonzie pride of accomplishment) I noticed the crappy look about the unfinished portion. Now, my wife knows its shit like this that drives me bonkers. Especially more so for what these modern new fangled vehicles cost. Of course I get it that these are all made on automated machinery. (Watched all the Toledo factory footage while waiting for this Rubi to arrive) Some things are great about the automated assembly and some things are bad. (Like no paint on the underside of Jeeps or lack of paint on the backside of the wheels when viewed through the spokes) Ok, that's my input for the day. Time to dismount everything and have the wheels powder coated. Who's with me?! Ha!

Your compulsion is triggered by the paint on the wheels, mine is triggered by the red "spot" on the tire sidewall. I know they serve a function, maybe Jeep is trying to tell us the paint...or lack of in the recesses serves some type of function ?

I'm far more triggered by the "beadlock capable" wheels... when they cannot provide the actual beadlock rings. Waiting in backorder limbo for months. I thought their astronomical pricing for a metal ring and some bolts was bad, but they've had my $800 for months and still no estimated shipping date.

Honestly in my case it is what it is. Just bringing this up since we all spent a decent coin and especially on the XR package. Had my wheels come with the lesser bolt bead lock protector rings, I’d be already shopping for aftermarket wheels. I feel your frustration.

Can you cancel the order or call your bank to credit your money back? I would have long given up. Not worth the aggravation.

I could, but most of our wheeling tough trails that I want the beadlocks for doesn't start until may and I'm assuming they'll be in by then...

Somehow I lucked out and found a guy locally who bought the wrong ones thinking they went with his 392. He got the powder coated before he noticed his mistake, and couldn’t return them. He sold me all 5 rings, powder coated gold, for $100.

My “beauty rings” are still on there, they’ve been scraped to death on the rocks in Moab though they need to be swapped out.

I don’t really know what to say here. Wow maybe? I’m sure if they were painted it’d come off over time from repeated torquing of the lug nuts.

I guess I see that as a matter of practicality more than anything. You're torquing those lugs down to 130 ft-lb; no paint or powder coat job is going to hold up to metal-on-metal at that kind of pressure. I'd be more annoyed if I took a lug out and saw paint flakes or powder coat peeling everywhere.

Maybe it's just a matter of perspective?

(I never take the high road. Be nice to me... lol)

It's not just the lug nuts but the whole wheel itself! They only painted the front face and a very light coat that will most likely wear off with repeated cleanings. I am comparing these to aftermarket wheels which are so well coated and thus easier to remove brake dust and dirt.

Oh, I get it about the face of where the lug nut sits, but it's the whole inside of the bore. (Whole wheel aside from face too.) It's just the fact that I had better expectations for this option. (This includes the whole underside but then I think almost all automakers are using less paint to lower their VOC emissions.

Just to be clear: your issue is with your wheels and not the gorilla nuts, correct? I am asking because I just bought a set of gorilla nuts and want to temper my expectations...

Me too! Had to get some shiny black locks to go with my new Quadratec lugs...

As long as you get the wide (Bulge type) you are fine. My issue was with the very thin coating of paint that was only applied to the face of the wheel and not the whole thing. Ultimately, the stud bores were also not painted which is no big deal except where the sun shines on the spare. I used these Gorilla nuts and then bought a small pack of 4 that came with a second key which I wanted for my home tool box (I left the other in the Jeep) The kit I bought comes with 20 nuts and I wanted another 3 for the spare.
