I had Jeep put the coating on. I can't tell if they did or didn't; however:

Water doesn't bead on paint. Is this correct?
Do I need to wax?
Anything else I should know?

Also: Bought and XR and sales person said they put it on at no cost to me. Rained today and noticed it didn't bead water on hood sitting in rain. I expected water to bead like it was waxed.

I’d say they lied. A real ceramic coating would bead water like crazy unless the paint is filthy. Even then you’ll notice dirt rinses off easier. As long as they didn’t charge you for the “ceramic”, I’d chalk it up to remembering dealerships are generally full of shit. Hell, even wax would show some hydrophobic properties.

Take it to a real detailer if you want it coated. Depending on your level of commitment to the coating and what your use case is for your Jeep I’d go with a lower cost ceramic. I use Adam’s regular spray ceramic and it’s great for an off-road Jeep that gets beat up by brush. If you’re is strictly a pavement queen I’d say get the higher end stuff if you are willing to stick to properly caring for it. Otherwise you’re wasting your money and should just PPF it for protection.

You can get damn close to a year with some of the spray ons layered. Griots ceramic 3 in 1 is my go to. It's not finicky to install and lasts a long time even on poorly prepped surfaces.

I have never had a ceramic coating on a vehicle that didn't bead water like it was JUST waxed for at least a couple years after application. Either they lied, or their ceramic coating is on par with their clutch.

I applied ceramic coating to both my Wrangler and Renegade. Very laborious process. I did the Rene three and a half years ago. It still beads water like it's been freshly waxed. Still shines beautifully. Did the Wrangler a year and a half ago - same results.

I'm sold on ceramic coatings.

Sounds to me like your dealer is pulling a fast one.

OK, this all makes sense. I got a "sheeting" coating on my XR, watched video and this is what it is doing.

Ehh. I’d still be suspicious. Sorry, call me a pessimist but who does a ceramic for free…?

Personally, I’d polish it out and apply quality stuff myself either way.

Mine is really obvious. Water should bead up very clearly. It shouldn't "wet" the surface at all, but sit up on top and run off.

Why free: There were some issues with my pickup, had to return Jeep to be detailed, Sales Person checked a box for the detailing to include Ceramic...stated the back had no way of knowing if customer paid. The issues picking up were more weather related than dealer related. Ice storm. Not like it was free, I did buy an XR at MSRP.

Gotcha. Well, as long as you’re happy that’s what matters! Go get that Jeep dirty now ?
