I used to think a front bumper should be 1/4". Now I see many 3/16", some 5/32" and, last night, I saw one listed as "heavy duty" 1/8" plate. At what point does marketing take priority over usefulness???? Any thoughts on minimum thickness????

I would think 1/4" as being heavy duty...or 1/4" in combination with something else (e.g., 3/16").

1/8" seems laughable to be called heavy duty...probably more marketing than anything else. But, one advantage with 1/8" is the potential weight savings.

I can probably bend a 1/8" thick bumper with my bare hands...:muscle: Kidding

Any time I need to make a bracket, I try to use 1/8" because it's so easy to shape (bend!!!)

I agree with the first part and a little of the second part, specifically it’s just flat sheet 1/8”. If we’re talking stamped 1/8” that’s a different story.
