Brake upgrade?

I recently switched to 35’s and notice a significant change in my braking. They’re just not as positive as before. Not really surprised. I’m wondering if anyone else here has upgrade their brakes to something more heavy duty? If so, what did you use?

I'm going to get some Hawk LTS pads for my Sport, I'm going to 315/70/17s soon and even w/ my current 295/70s the brakes could use some more aggressive pads. There's not many performance brake pad options but Hawks get good reviews, I've ran them before on other vehicles and they make a quality pad.

I think I would go that route first and see if it gets you to a better place, if not there are BBK options, but starting at about $2500 for a full F&R kit it gets serious

Not yet, I just put in a M220 rear end in and should get the new pads soon, within the next month I believe.

I’m putting 37s on in the next month or so and I’ve been looking at brake kits, but I’d prefer to not spend 3k on Teraflex’s. Does anybody have any experience with the Hawk’s and bigger tires?

Did the axle come from a Willys or a SportS w/LSD option? Those have different brakes, right? Trying to figure out which Hawk parts I would use for my SportS (w/D44 rear), I think HB569Y.650 and HB943Y.710

It has the LSD, should be the same rear pads as my M200 from what I can tell.

But don’t Sports and Willys have different pads / brake codes - BRY vs BR6?

I run EBC Yellow or Green pads, I run the GREEN pads but some guys run the yellow. You do the rotors also I did, grooved and drilled.

You really only need them on the front, where at least 70s of all braking takes place. I have good friend who is a consulting test engineer in the automotive business. He told me he had recently done a study on braking on Jeeps and he the result were EBC Yellow or Green pads.

His company tested all the major brands of pads and nothing stopped better than EBC Green. When I installed them on my Rubicon and I could not believe the stopping difference. I also run 35s.




Here is a compare of Yellow Vs Green: I think for driving local and off roading the Green works as well as the Yellow. If you are towing the Yellow may be your choice.

Just measured mine best as I could with the wheels on and they matched the Sport specs per below - 24mm thick front and 12mm thick rear

My M220 came off a JLU sport so maybe the Willys is different, not sure there.
