Is this what I think it is? Have this on bottom edges of 2 doors.

The Jeep is barely 2 years old, has Expel protective film installed on all surfaces (including all door edges with film wrapped around them). Zero damage to door edges (no dents, scratches, anything that would penetrate the paint). I even sprayed a bit of Blaster Surface Shield inside the cavity of every door a few weeks after taking delivery.

WTF???

Absurd. The biggest hesitation I have of swapping out my JK. Vehicles that cost this much should not have this issue even if "it is a Jeep."

looks pretty typical.

since the issue is with the prep before the paint is put on, no amount of protection on top of the paint is going to make any difference.

Your warranty covers corrosion for 5 years. Personally I would wait another year or two to see how many more areas pop up so it can all be addressed as opposed to returning more than once. Oddly my 2020 has no corrosion signs yet.

This happened to my 2018; given you're in the 5-year period from the manufactured date, it should be covered under warranty. I would also check the inside of the door along the pinch seam/weld line. The corrosion can eat away at the inside of the door jam, and it will spread to the body of the Jeep. If I remember correctly, if the corrosion is just on the outside, the dealership will strip the paint and fix it. If the corrosion spreads to the inside of the pinch seam, they have to replace the whole door. My two cents would be to wait a little bit for it to spread to the inside so you get a full door replacement, assuming you have time on your warranty. I noticed it when the paint was scraping off, so I would encourage you to put something in the door jam to prevent this. I've heard horror stories of it becoming a REALLY big bill for people. The dealership quoted me about 12k for the 4 doors, but one bill they had was over 25k for the 4 doors' tailgate, windshield frame, and hood. I think it is the biggest issue with the JL platform

In this case the corrosion is coming from the bottom edge of both doors. I already found a spot of bubbling paint on the inside of one door and a spot of rust on another.

Still cannot believe this. Jeep is 25 months old and has 11K miles.

I agree with you that it does look like corrosion coming in. Unfortunately, knowing how a lot of dealerships are, I don't think that's enough to justify them replacing the door. I would still wait a little while to make it more obvious that you need a door. It sucks to have to dealwith it after 2 years, definitely not something you should have to worry about this early.

My 2018 JLU Sahara has had her 4 doors and 4 sets of hinges replaced. $9K. In the 3rd party body shop for 45 days.
I want a new one but I’m afraid of repeating the process.

When I think about what's coming, I see the following in my future:
  • Drive around every day for the next 30+ months with peeling/flaking paint on multiple panels, waiting long enough for corrosion to get bad enough to request panel replacements, but not but not TOO LONG (before the 5-yr corrosion warranty ends).
  • Spend an INSANE amount of time fighting Jeep to agree to cover panel replacements.
  • Because Jeep does not cover repainting done by a qualified 3rd party shop (easy to find), spend an INSANE amount of time finding a Jeep dealer that will agree to do the repair, WITHOUT doing a horrible job or causing more damage (as common as snow in the tropics).
  • Drive for 3-7 hours each way to drop off the Jeep, drive back, then to go pick it up and drive back (there is not a single decent Jeep dealership within a 2+ hr driving distance from NYC).
  • Spend 1-5 weeks waiting for Jeep to get repaired.
  • End up with mismatched paint between body panels that were replaced and original body panels, destroying the resale value.
  • End up with damaged/incorrectly reinstalled weatherstripping, causing leaks and wind noise.
  • Pay around $3K+ to reinstall XPEL film on all the panels that were replaced.
  • Spend the rest of the time I own the Jeep waiting for corrosion to return (because the dealer's paint shop also would not follow a correct prep process, which pretty much guarantees the corrosion will return).
  • When corrosion appears on some panels after the 5-year paint warranty expires, repeat the process all over, this time paying tens of thousands of dollars out of my own pocket.
All of this is after paying $77K plus thousands more in taxes and thousands yet more for clear film, etc. When I add the cost of the time I am going to lose on this and the amount of money I am going to need to pay to keep this shit on the road even for another 5 years after the 5-yr corrosion warranty expires, I end up WAY north of $100K. How is this possible?

All I wanted was an american-made off-roader with a V8 (full size truck was too big). Guess I forgot that the only place you can get free cheese is the mousetrap.

The fact that anyone would spend $80+k on a vehicle without doing the minute amount of research required to know that this eventuality wasn't just possible but actually quite likely absolutely floors me. The fact that they subsequently enter a public forum to admit to the above and still play the victim floors me even more.
