Check your build sheet. If it's on there, they owe you one. AFAIK, all Canadian JLs come with them.

Unfortunately, no block heaters on Canadian Jeeps. I just got that rude awakening on my 2024 Rubicon. They want $1k to put one in!! In a country where -30 is a norm, how the hell do we not get block heaters in our Jeep?! Never even thought to check when I bought it as my last 3 Wranglers had them (just like every other vehicle I’ve ever owned).

Looks like another 2024 budget cut. They came on every Canadian JL from 18-23 AFAIK.

In saying that, I live in Ottawa and have never used it. Granted, we've only had a few -30 days the last few years so there is that. Not the 2 or 3 weeks we used to get.

Yup.

These new engines aren't like the ones we had as kids. They'll start in the cold without the help of a block heater. I had a little crappy rental car that I left at the airport last year when it went to -50 for a week. I thought there was no chance of it starting without being plugged in. Surprisingly, two cranks and it was running.

Having said that, I have always plugged my Jeeps in whenever it went below -15. Even with better multi weight oils now, I have always thought that warm oil was easier on your engine than cold. Is this dated thinking now?

Yup.

Probably still good advice. Synthetics help a lot more these days I think too.

I have always thought that warm oil was easier on your engine than cold. Is this dated thinking now?

Pre-heated fluids during cold starts should indeed put less demand on the battery and starter. That said, IIRC, the engine block heater does exactly that: it pre-heats the block, which by extension means it's warming the engine coolant, not the oil collected in the sump on the underside of the block. Not for nothing does post-facto installation of block heaters usually require draining and refilling the antifreeze, while leaving the engine oil untouched.

LMAO. I dont get why you're thinking Canuck JLs don't come standard with a low washer light.......
