Figured I'd revive this thread as I finally replaced this part myself after a year of slowly hearing this annoying noise get worse and it's one that shows up first on Google when searching for this problem on the JL.

I went to AutoZone and picked up the Dorman/Duralast aftermarket version of this part, Blend Door Actuator 604-209. I had to poke my finger through the cabin air filter housing and lift the door up a smidge to align it, but it was no effort at all. A tiny torx rachet worked for the screws.

Cost $30, took less than five minutes to replace, and finally there is silence.

I have no idea if anyone in this thread is active, but I'll reply anyway.

If you don’t mind, follow-up with how it goes. On the surface it doesn’t look difficult, but the $325 in labor has me wondering if more components have to come out than we’re thinking.
Yikes. Were you able to confirm they did other work or just that part? That's a lotta labor.

Any chance you tried replacing yourself? Looking for videos or info on how difficult the repair is but this was the closest thread I could find.

any insight on how yours wentwould be helpful!
This is incredibly easy to do assuming the issue is just for the recirculation door. The passenger blend door actuator is also fairly accessible (requires removing some vent tubes), but I think the driver side is the one that's a real pain in the ass.

This is very good information! I always suspected it was a simple swap out, but you’re right the amount they changed for labor was insane. That was the only work they did on that invoice - can’t help but wonder if they jacked up the rates knowing they were direct billing a 3rd party warranty company.

With a third party warranty you absolutely will add 1.0 hr diagnosis to any issue. It isn’t worth the time to deal with those pricks without it.

This is a great information. Love the community!

I recently noticed the noise and found this thread. Found this Dorman part on amazon and I’m being cheap bought the one “like new” for $15. Will see how it goes given it doesn’t take too much effort to replace. Thank you so much!

Update: this part is for JK. Does it work for JL? JL part number is 68301847AA. Look the same though

It should. They're used on tons of different vehicles.

Looks like this one has a different resistance than the official part for JL.
I got a code complaining the blend door motor circuit short to battery. Functionally seems ok. Not sure if affecting anything.

Mine is working flawlessly, but I'm not under the impression these are built with any semblance of quality.

Did you have trouble code from HVAC module? Mins is working flawlessly. I was just routinely scan the code from all controller and discovered it

If you mean with a typical code reader, like a JScan or FlashCal, no, I don't get any codes.

Does the blend door cause temp issues or is it just noisy? When I use defrost on the front window I seem to get either ice cube cool, or volcano heat. The break over seems to be around 68-69 degrees if I manually set the fan speed.
