Figured I'd revive this thread as I finally replaced this part myself after a year of slowly hearing this annoying noise get worse and it's one that shows up first on Google when searching for this problem on the JL.
I went to AutoZone and picked up the Dorman/Duralast aftermarket version of this part, Blend Door Actuator 604-209. I had to poke my finger through the cabin air filter housing and lift the door up a smidge to align it, but it was no effort at all. A tiny torx rachet worked for the screws.

Cost $30, took less than five minutes to replace, and finally there is silence.
I have no idea if anyone in this thread is active, but I'll reply anyway.

Yikes. Were you able to confirm they did other work or just that part? That's a lotta labor. If you don’t mind, follow-up with how it goes. On the surface it doesn’t look difficult, but the $325 in labor has me wondering if more components have to come out than we’re thinking.
This is incredibly easy to do assuming the issue is just for the recirculation door. The passenger blend door actuator is also fairly accessible (requires removing some vent tubes), but I think the driver side is the one that's a real pain in the ass.Any chance you tried replacing yourself? Looking for videos or info on how difficult the repair is but this was the closest thread I could find.
any insight on how yours wentwould be helpful!
