Hi, looking for advice on bigger brakes for my 2023 392. I have the stock 17 inch x7.5 inch Beadlock-Capable wheels with Toyo Open Country 37” A/T tires. I also have hub centric 1.25 wheel spacers. With the larger tires the brake petal is now a bit sluggish.

I don't want to have to change wheels / tires and hoping there is an option that would work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I know teraflex offers a big brake kit. I'm interested in options too. Have you been offroad in 4lo yet going down hill? We have a Rubicon diesel on 37's and 4.56 gears. The torque of the diesel in 4lo on 37's going down obstacles it just pushes right through the brakes.

I have not been off-road as yet. I did contact APB and here is their response.

https://apbbrake.com/products/jeep-wrangler-392?variant=40744094269609

"Thanks for reaching out. The 392 big brake kit with a 14” rotor is compatible with most 17” aftermarket wheels. If you are using 17” factory wheels, we recommend our front brake kit with a custom-made 13.4” rotor setup. Please print the template at 100% scale to check the clearance between the caliper and the wheel spokes before purchase.

The rear kit with a 14” rotor may not be compatible with factory wheels. To maximize stopping power, we suggest upgrading the front brake and brake booster, which will provide a very noticeable increase in stopping power"

I would love to know as well. and I can't stand APB's template. Teraflex makes a great one for their setup. I did print the APB ones out, just have not pulled the spare back off to check. (2024 XR rims currently) I was looking at having a set of bead locks and GOOD tires, and the OE rims and some good AT tires for DD driving, so I would need to make sure the brakes fit the OE and aftermarket rims... I really wish there was more info out there on this.

I know Shocker racing has them on one of their 392's and they love the kit. Litebrite also put in the booster (holy hell that vacuum booster is $$) and said it helps stop the stepchild, and that thing is a whale of a jeep now.

I like the look of the APB and if I'm spending that much, then I'm going with the 14" rotors LOL. I wish I had more info/help.

DO NOT PURCHACE APB BRAKE KITS!!!!!

I have their 392 kit and it is the worst thing I have ever sank money into. BTW, the only difference in 392 brakes is the rear rotor is vented instead of solid. Notice all their pictures are on show trucks.

Reasons not to run APB Brakes:

1. NOT American. Chinese made and shipped via Taiwan.
2. Absolutely the worst customer service on the planet.
3. 4 piston calipers are questionable (I had two different brake shops confirm my suspicions of maybe only two working)
4. Very small brake pad area
5. Rotors are warped from the factory (already had all four replaced and still vibrates)
6. Absolute refusal to allow me to return
7. Stopped responding to my inquiries to fix all of these problems/return/refund etc.

I can tell you that the Teraflex Delta brake work extremely well on my lifted 37" tire equipped JLUR when loaded down. If you don't mind the cost of 6 piston APB brakes and can fit your wheels, they'll perform even better in some conditions.

The Teraflex calipers were made in USA last I heard from them. The rotors were off-shore sourced, IIRC.

Well right there is a BIG no vote. Thanks for sharing that.

APB is NOT 6 piston, only 4. Advise checking out Wilwood (will be my next brake kit after I save up enough to throw away my APB brakes)

Good to know Teraflex works in the real world as I have read conflicting reviews. I wheeled with Mark before; great guy and quality suspension products.

When i looked at Wilwood a couple years ago, their kit required 18" wheels to clear. That was one reason I went with Teraflex.

I put Alcon big brake kits on all three of my jeeps and now STOP! Did the install myself and am in no way a mechanic and had no prior experience (the first time). Easy to install and fit/work like a charm - a gentle touch on the brake pedal is all it takes. Can have them custom powder coated if you want to spend more $$ too.

Alcons front and rear for the win. There are several threads on them. They are expensive, but amazing. (it’s not about “big”, it’s about better clamping force, better heat dissipation, and improved pads and durability.) They work with both my sets of 17” wheels, but I can’t speak for all 17” wheels.
