Well, manufacturers won't share dealer maintenance data. So, owner data is what they have to work with.
In the commercial airplane industry, airlines that are top tier customers, agree to report back to the manufacturer certain maintenance and reliability data. It helps both the customer and manufacturer in that industry, because reliability data is what is used to determine maintenance intervals that get approved by the feds, and to determine when it's economically the right maintenance interval or a redesign of a component is needed. So, customer reported data is extremely important. Albeit more controlled customer reported data.
