2 Door soft-top Rubicon, 2.0 Turbo. It's going to be my daily driver with occasional off-roading. (And probably top off as much as possible.) I'm looking at a delete because I'm guessing I'm going to accidentally rip off or destroy the low-hanging muffler on a trail if I don't physically remove it myself. I also figure if I get one installed quickly, I might not notice/mind the sound difference as much as if I run stock for a while, then switch.
Right now I'm leaning towards the DynoMax 39537 Muffler Elimination Pipe or the MBRP Axle-Back Exhaust. (??) But, it also doesn't look too hard to trade the stock muffler with one of the pipes. Could I just do that when I plan to go have some fun, then switch back -- or would it be a lot of random work + too much wear and tear on the bolts and other parts?

I mean, deleting a muffler is literally just that. Remove it from the system and put a straight pipe in its place.
I think what you’re referring to is upgrading to a slimmer high flow muffler.

That said, you can always just take it off when you want to hit a trail for the day(s) and then put it back on after.

Also like, the stock muffler already sits higher than the rear axle. So if you’re scraping low enough to rip off the muffler, chances are you’ve probably already done some serious work to the axle lol

All that and I love car noises. Planning on popping mine off this weekend when I do a spring swap so I can see what it sounds like.
I have a soft top though, shit might get obnoxious quick ?

Oh, and if I do like the noise I’ll more than likely get one of the $100-$150 muffler delete pipes myself.

I had a Mini before the Jeep with a cat-back straight pipe. No muffler and no resonator, thing was loud as fuck. Absolutely loved it, but again with a ragtop now who knows.

Not necessarily

Be careful backing up. Plants hide rocks in the desert (ask me how I know).

I was not thinking of reverse.

You’ve just solidified me popping the muffler off this weekend to see what a cold start sounds like. ?

Maybe I should do that. Need to go get an exhaust bracket for the passenger side still.

Ahh, you are correct -- those ones I listed looked pretty basic to my never-changed-a-muffler eyes. I knew I didn't want to just yank off the muffler -- Doesn't seem good for the bottom of the Jeep. (Probably other people's ears, either. But my choice of music + awful singing-along is probably more offensive to most people. ?)

Just wondering why you're considering going for a muffler delete pipe on a daily-driver vs getting a smaller high-tuck muffler?

Was initially thinking of going that route myself, but after listening to countless sound clips online, the delete pipes only seems to amplify the already poopy sound of both the 2.0T and 3.6L engines, while the single outlet high-tuck mufflers are only slightly louder with the same obstacle clearance.

Guess price would be another valid factor, since some of the mufflers are stupid expensive right now. Was originally set on getting the Injen high-tuck, but the $700+ price for an axle-back just seems unreasonable. The Savvy one seems perfect at $500, but being custom made, it's rarely ever available. Almost got the AFE version when it was on sale for $400 last week, but now that Magnaflow has a new one out, I'd kinda like to hear what that one sounds like with the weird second resonator removed.

Based on bad-ass sound alone, I think my top pick would be the Borla Climber, which replaces the stock resonator with a mini muffler and a straight pipe back. Doesn't seem as loud as the short muffler delete pipe, but still plenty aggressive. Unfortunately, it's just not compatible with my rig due to the eTorque battery and auto-4WD.

Just my ever-changing opinions so far. And don't get me wrong, I love a loud exhaust even on a 4-banger like the WRX or Evo, but for whatever reason, the 2.0T in the Wrangler just doesn't produce that same deep growl and burble (and the 3.6L really isn't much better).

Yeah ... "muffler delete" and "daily driver" don't really mix. Particularly when you have an engine like this that just doesn't sound good.

I like the magnaflow overland series for a muffler replacement. It is a bit pricey at about $750 but it is tunable to the sound you want by adjusting the lenght of resonance. Good youtube video about it and also trail Recon borrowed his freinds AEV jeep that had the system on it and did a sound check with the longest resonanator setup. It was quiet and sounded good.

Thank you for all the good input!
It seems like just removing the muffler (and temporarily replacing it with a simple ~ $100 pipe) shortly before I go off-roading, then replacing the full size muffler when we're done, would be the smartest option for me. I don't mind a loud vehicle (I am getting a Wrangler...) but I'm also not a "the-louder-the-better" type person when it comes to vehicles.

I removed the muffler on my 2.0T daily driver and replaced with an MBRP muffler delete pipe ($115). I then installed a Magnaflow oval muffler (part number 11376, $125) before the axle. It tucks up high and is less than an inch below the exhaust pipe. However, in hindsight, the Magnaflow doesn't provide a lot of difference in sound than before installing it. It is noticeably louder than stock but not bad even with top off.

FYI, my major reason for removing the stock muffler is because I think they look horrible! I thought about going with a lower profile axle back muffler with dual exit in black but decided that I would rather have nothing showing.

It is definitely not the most attractive part of the Wrangler!

Just my 2 cents since I’m getting the 3.6 etorque but I do plan to do full exhaust swap looking at all afe from cats back looking at the loop delete, y pipe, resonator delete and muffler delete. So I vote go with a muffler delete check out a lot of you tube videos but always watch on the same device so get best comparison of sound diffrence.
Now my tolerances are different than others. My gti with a 2.0 turbo 4 is muffler deleted and loud and my ram with 360 is also muffler deleted and even louder.
