At 600 miles I know I am still just breaking things in with the new Jeep, but I noticed both yesterday and today a quick belt chirp when I first started it up in the morning. I didn't notice it later in the day yesterday and I'll see if it happens again today.

Just a normal part of things breaking-in with the new motor, or something to have checked out? What say you???

Assuming the belt is tensioned properly and the noise isn't coming from a bearing, you can use a little white lithium grease on the belt. Has worked for me in the past.

What is the ambient temperature at the time? It might be possible that the alternator is experiencing a small spike at startup and loading the serpentine belt up.

The Jeep lives in an attached, but unheated garage. Usually upper 40s in the winter. Could that be the cause?

I have heard of it on some 160A and 220A alternators on Chargers and Challengers........but it’s few and far between.

Yeah I was going to say maybe cold out. Cold makes things creak.

Ah. Yeah, not that cold even on the coldest mornings.

Did it again this morning. I paid a little closer attention, though, and it seems to chirp a half-second after it starts to fire up. Still just one short chirp and no other issues or symptoms.

I’d chalk it up to temperature. But very well the alternator as mentioned above. But either way, more than likely not an issue.

I wouldnt worry about it. My 2.0L is at 6500km its never done it, but i do fleet maintenance for work and ive heard brand new 3.6L's with less than 10,000kms have belt squeal and its actually pretty common on those for some reason.

if you have ever pressure washed your engine bay that can cause it. if it really bugs you you can spray a tiny bit of silicone spray on the inside of the belt and that will get rid of it

I haven't used silicone (which is probably fine), but I have found that the CRC Technician Grade Dielectric Grease works effectively and definitely lasts longer than some of the other greases. Clear and slippery.

I think I’m experiencing the same, only in the cool garage (40-60°F) starting after sitting for a bit. No other issues so I’m considering it normal unless I hear otherwise or it gets worse. 2.0L turbo ā€˜22 JLU 7k miles.
