I have read some of the 2.0T engines are experiencing timing chain tensioner rattling at cold start, and it started to make me paranoid.
Can anyone with experience take a listen - is it normal or not?

Thanks.

Normal. The 2.0 sounds like a farm tractor until warmed up. Extreme negative spark timing, crazy cam schedules, and special cold start firing for the direct injectors until the catalytic converter comes up to temp make these sound terrible when cold. At the tailpipe you’ll even hear misfires. I’ve driven a bunch of these plus I owned one for two years and they also did the same.

that is exactly how mine sounds. I’ve read it can be caused by timing chain tensioner, slow pressure build-up. It just odd that it goes away after a minute or two.

result of haveing the engine heat up quickly as a function of the ecu
retarded engine timeing cause’s engines to run run hot.
watch your temp gauge on cold start up And watch how fast it comes up to operating temps. Most cars just rely on engines thermostat to get engine up to operating temps.
Ever had an engine heat up as quick and give you hot air from vents within minutes?
