The only thing I miss are power mirrors, but thats not really a big deal. I dont move my seat often and I'm the only one who drives it, so its a set it and forget it.
Yeah that's the truth right there. I am 6'5" tall and my wife is 5'1" (I think). In her Subaru Forester, she drives it to and from work, but I drive it all other times, so you know every time I get in I got to readjust those mirrors, which is kind of a huge Plus that they are automatic. Only thing better would have been if we got a touring Edition Subaru which has the memory buttons so all I got to do is press the button and I'm good to go.

My Wrangler is like that, my wife really doesn't drive it, and the handful of times she has had to drive it, I only have one mirror (drivers side; it's legal in Texas) but she never adjusts it... Probably because she can't reach it from the driver's seat, or maybe she just knows I get annoyed when I have to readjust it, and she never drives it more than 5 miles.

But yeah manual mirrors definitely sucks if you have multiple drivers!!

Yeah, I was reminded of how much it sucks when I took it in for inspection Monday, WOOOT REGISTRATION TAGS AND STICKERS IM LEGAL AND THE JEEP IS OFFICAL, and had to spend the next two days readjusting stuff.

Im short. Apparently the tech was a giant.

I imagine they last longer than these rubber tubes and plastic slots.

The manual window crank on a JL hits me in the leg while driving and is extremely uncomfortable, so I did not get one.

I come from decades of driving pretty bare-bones Jeeps, including a WWII-era Willys MB, CJ-3, M38, CJ-5, etc. My last Jeep was a beloved CJ-5 that had no power anything, so even the 2 door Sport is waaaay too luxurious for me. I drive in safari mode with half doors (no uppers) almost all year, but when I only drove with full doors, the manual locks and windows didn't bother me a bit. In fact, I was more than happy to have two fewer electric gizmos to fail. After all these years Jeepin', I've learned that less is more, especially when it comes to anything electrical, electronic, computerized, etc..

Only complaint, is that it was a little challenging to roll the passenger window up/down with my short T-Rex arms, but I think I only did that 3 or 4 times a year anyway. Oh...and the obnoxiously huge key fob...don't get me started on that unnecessary monstrosity! Wish they could have just made a smaller fob for the Sport or perhaps just a simple key like the old days....but I know that's asking too much, LOL.

Yeah, a regular key driven ignition wouldve been nice.

But, in my time at Caddy I never saw one fail or come in for a failure of one. So there's that I guess.

Ha I have the same problem. If my windows are down when I start driving they are staying down.

You can fix the key thing though. I have a normal key sized key and don't use a FOB at all.

Hello.

I'm considering the base model and wondered if members with the base model ended up hating the roll up windows and manual locks....especially for 4 doors. Should I just pay up for the Sport S? Interested in whether you can live with it or if you seriously regret it.

Thank you.
I have auto windows and seats and honestly wish I have manual ones. A jeep is made to run rough and the fewer electronics the easier it is to repair on your own and in general.

Jeep isnt built for luxury, and I say this as a sahara owner.

They're being configured for luxury, though, that's for certain. Consider the many trims -- everything except the Sport, really -- that exist solely to accommodate today's softer, gentler Wrangler owner: Leather seating, $4K fabric sunroofs, heated steering wheels, massive alloy wheels, electronic nannies, etc.

Contrivances like the "Altitude", to say nothing of the $100K V8s, aren't accidental.

That the vehicle is still available with solid axles and a mechanical transfer case is something of a minor miracle. How long it may be before Corporate has them in their sights (as they've told us internal combustion engines already are) is anyone's guess.

In a perfect Jeep world, a considerably larger number in the enthusiast community would make known their preference for broadband simplicity, which begets long(er)-term reliability. The inverse of all that is and has been true for a while now.

Knowing almost nothing about cars in general one of the primary reasons I bought a jeep (the v6) was because of how simple it was under the hood compared to almost everything else including the reliable models out there. As a softer, gentler man I like the extras but over the long haul Id rather be thinking like its russia 1967 - fix it yourself or dont. Any mechanic worth his salt in 10 years will be a luxury if it already isnt.

First off: beautiful jeep you have there!

Second: Companies have been selling cars with power windows for like at least 80 years now. At this point I think whether the mechanism is electric or manual, the reliability will come down to how well it was made. Neither one should fail. I've actually seen busted manual windows on cars before too LOL.

On the other hand, one less wire harness to disconnect when pulling the doors must be nice.

Also, a push button ignition should be simpler than a mechanical key ignition at this point.

If Jeep went truly oldschool and went back to selling us vehicles with a metal key and no electronics whatsoever? Jeeps would be getting stolen left and right. Look at what happened to Kia/Hyundai when they decided to see if nobody would notice when they sold their lowest end models without electronic verification lol. :D
