Mine temporarily glitched the other day. I touched the phone icon to place a call and while it was coming up I shifted into R. The phone screen came up while the Jeep was in R. I thought to myself "that was dumb." then for the rest of the day the camera did not display nor could it be forced with the controls options/button.

Next day: everything normal.

I have had similar problems with my back up camera. Initially a blue screen during a test drive when it had 100 miles on it and then 2 other separate blue screen episodes and no back up camera function today as the screen stayed in SXM radio mode and the touchscreen was unresponsive. I haven’t reported this to the dealership yet but this is extremely irritating in a new vehicle.

Was using CarPlay today and needed to tap the screen several times before it would respond. Then as I was driving the climate control decided to start blowing heat! Darlene at Jeep contacted my local dealer for me (they were just thrilled to hear I purchased out of state) so I’m looking forward to an interesting visit.

Ours has been having this issue since we picked up the Jeep. First time we took it to the dealer, it worked when they put it in reverse and said it must have been a fluke. Later that same day it didn't turn on again and this time I took a pic with my phone have have since everytime I get a chance for documentation. Second time at the dealer they tried saying no issue and I showed them the photos of the black screen while in reverse, so they called tech support who told them it was the radio. Changed out radio and the same day I picked it up, no camera again. It is now going back for the 3rd time tomorrow for this issue which may seem trivial to some but for my wife, it is really ticking her off. For as long as back up cameras have been around, this should not be happening and the dealers lack of ability to correct is rediculous. Jeepcares has been in contact iwth me, but paying this much for a new car and then having to drop it off for service 3 times in 1100 miles is rediculous. Hope they step up and correct the issue as it appears from this post as well as a few others, many are having this issue and it is not tied to one particular radio size.

I'll update if the dealer actually corrects the issue this time and what the correction was.

I’ve had mine for two days! Backup camera works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. CarPlay doesn’t work and usb’s don’t work! Going back to dealer for service, hope I don’t hear that they can’t replicate the problem!:swear:

Good luck, mine was just dropped off at my local dealer where I almost had to deal with a service writer who was so miserable he had no business working at a service position! Luckily he told the svc writer next to him to just write it up. I was able to show the service writer a video of what the camera does as I started documenting these issues and within 50 miles it’s happened 4 times! So hopefully I don’t get the we couldn’t duplicate the issue lip service we all know to well. Darlene at jeep cares is on top of it and if FCA dealers service writers had 10% of the Interest that Darlene had I would feel confident I’m in good hands. By the way my Jeep is at a NY dealer!

Same thing for me yesterday. Radio didn't turn off. Backup camera wouldn't display even when forcing it via app manager. 30 minutes later after turning Jeep off...everything is back. It would make sense if this was during an OTA software push to lockout the ability to turn off the radio.

Hi thefastmofo,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing these complications with your Jeep. Please send us a PM with your VIN, mileage, and dealer so that we can start a case on your behalf for while you are in service with your dealer.

I have had 3 JLs in the shop in the last week with blue screen and or screen locked up. After checking a few tech cases from FCA I contacted them for assistance and was passed on to an engineer. If the wiring in the tailgate is good for the back up camera then expect an update soon. They said most likely end of June or early July. It will be an over the air update.

On one jeep they also had a concern of a wind leak. FCA called me within a half hour of the Jeep being in the service dept. Went over a few things and found no wind leaks just a wind noise that can't be fully repaired.

I am going to ask my Jeep service department for their mechanic’s boom box and sit it in the passenger seat.
