So, this is a little wierd (to me). I have a 2020 JLURD with the 8.4 screen alpine sound system. I work at a military base, and when I approach the gate guards, I mute the sound system. After showing my ID and being waved through, I'll unmute. So, maybe 30 seconds or so later. When I unmute, the backup camera engages on the screen and I have to hit the "X" in the upper right to turn it off. I do have a Tazer, but it was installed 6 months ago and this annoyance just started last week. Not a big deal, but just wondering if any of you have experienced this, and maybe know what the cause is.

From the Tazer instructions, although the 30 second delay between pressing mute is odd
• Set Camera: Rather than using the menu to cycle cameras and video inputs, they can also be cycled by quickly tapping the radio MUTE button twice.

Well, that explains it then. LOL! Wonder why it hasn't happened before last week. I've done the same thing every Monday thru Friday morning since installing the Tazer. I appreciate the quick response @Terrymo.

Well you got me curious so I tried pressing mute waited about 20 seconds and pressed it a second time and the rear camera came up on this display. If I waited much more than 30 seconds between presses, it did not. After the mute double tap with the rear camera displayed you can double tap again to go back to your main screen I believe,

ZAuto has a interesting concept of "quickly"!

Like I said, it's not a problem. LOL! Now I know to wait a little longer before I unmute. Also, now I know how to turn it on quickly if I need it. ;-)

I wonder how the folks at Z Automotive came up with the time delay amount and am equally curious if it was in part a product of the reality of CANBUS messages, like the very ones the Mute button broadcasts, and those message's priorities.

From what little on know of CANBUS communication, a priority is set on each message, radio muting likely in the scheme of things to have a lower priority than say steering. When messages come in at the same time the highest priority one is followed and lower priority ones are rebroadcasted.

FWIW, I have noticed that when I press the mute button twice quickly, it turns on the reverse camera no matter what I’m doing. I turn it off the same way. I have a Tazer installed, and I’m new enough to Jeeps, that I’m not sure if it’s a Tazer feature or if it came programmed from the factory that way. It’s come in handy a few times.

See post #2 with the relevant Tazer instructions
