I had this problem as well and replaced both batteries at 4yrs. Once replaced, the AUX switches still would not power on. I checked fuses and everything was fine. I chased down all the factory wires at footwell and next to the battery. Still NOTHING!

Then I ripped the button cluster out, disconnected, re-connected and then they worked accordingly

I'll channel my inner @Rhinebeck01 for a moment and suggest you replace both batteries at the same time. Doing only one is a recipe for ongoing battery problems.
You need to add a couple of spaced out paragraphs and multi colored fonts.?
OP, get the small one tested first and then replace if bad. It’ll destroy your main if you leave it for too long.

If one is bad, the other will follow. OP is better off having both replaced, despite their low age.

Honestly, go to the trouble of putting in a Genesis Dual Battery System.
I have that Genesis system in mind for my near to medium-term future as well!

From Day One of learning about the JLs, I have despised the very thought of the entire ESS system, and the little abortion of a 12-month lifespan, deeply buried golf-cart battery that it rode in on.

What makes anyone think that one is bad? Are you thinking that a single low voltage scenario where the aux battery protection kicked in is all it takes to destroy a pair of batteries?

Just passing along what has been said on here for ages. Replace both at same time if one or the other, or both, are bad.

Thanks all for the comment\suggestions. The more I hear the more it sounds like a really dumb idea to put 2 different batteries together to handle the load of the jeep. All the research I have been doing in other areas of solar and battery setups for my motorhome tell me this is a bad idea. So shame on Jeep for doing such a stupid design. At the very minimum they should have had a LIFPO battery setup included as a completely separate standalone entity, separate from start battery.

The idea of replacing both at same time makes sense. When connected as I understand they are(parallel), a bad battery will affect the other connected batteries adversely.
