I just built one on the Jeep configurator site. It does let you build an automatic with 4.88s, as long as you don't select the XR package. Seems odd that you are forced to go with the 4.56s with the XR package, but it may just be a limitation of the configurator. I wonder if the dealer could sub 4.88s with the XR when submitting an order?
When I select 4.88s it forces me into the 6 speed manual still on the build and price configurator. Weird.

Where do you find the most recent order guide?

Yeah, Jeep's website configurators really suck. I probably would've spent a little extra for 4.88 gears, but honestly thought they weren't possible for a 2-door automatic.

Sounds like I may be in luck since 35s or 37s would be in the near future after receiving the Jeep. This would save me money up front by having the 4.88s off the bat.
For a 2-door, I don't plan on going any taller than 34 or 35", so I should still be okay with 4.10 gears if this chart is correct..

If i was factory ordering anything, I’d personally chose the lowest set (highest numeric) unless I was particularly concerned with mpg.

Yeah agree, but I'm already in production, so too late for that. Not overly concerned with MPG, but with a noticeable loss of performance. 34-35" on 4.10 should be fine, I think.

Plus, I really don't need 37s for flexing on the water fountain in front of the mall ;)

Other than worse mpg, would 4.88 on the stock 33s out any excessive wear on the engine? Still kind trying to wrap my head around gearing and how it affects everything. I’ve always just understood it as higher numerical is better for bigger tires.

Would 4.88 with 33s accelerate faster from a stop?

I believe it was mentioned on one of the JL FB pages you can actually add 4:88s to the XR pkg as well. Not sure it’s worth the money on top of cost of XR pkg but may be of interest for some.

How do they not spell this out on the Build and Price if this is true? So many orders are placed online through email and not even knowing about stuff like this.

I’ve been talking with a dealer over the last few days. He knew I initially wanted 4.88 in a manual Rubicon and I told him I wanted to see pricing for an automatic…

He said he was able to leave the 4.88 gearing on the automatic build sheet so he sent it over like that. Has anyone else seen this??

Pic below for reference of what I was sent…

I just played around on the ?? Build & Price tool, and it's pretty good at not showing options that aren't compatible with each other (never even knew about XR package for a bit because it never showed up as an option with a 6 speed; the only thing this hasn't been true with is that half doors aren't compatible with Earl & Reign). Just tried to build a JLR with a 3.6 AT, and the 4.88 gearing shows up at the bottom of the page as an option. So it seems totally possible to order if that's what you end up wanting.

Other than the jank previews not updating, how in the heck does the Canadian build-and-price configurator work so much better than the US version? You still can't even configure a 3.6 auto 2-door Rubicon on it.

Well... Looks like it’s time to order a new Jeep…

Honestly jealous this wasn’t an option (or I didn’t know about it) when I ordered. I would have gladly put up with gearing that was a bit too low until I put bigger tires on. I have 35’s with 4.10’s now and it’s fine, but 37’s are my end goal. To get it done from factory would have been fantastic.

It's not as pretty or fancy, it only updated to include the MY23s like a week or so ago, and you don't get to play around doors/top on/off, or do a 360 look, but it probably works better because of how much more simple it is compared to the US one. I always used the Canadian one to price out my choices, and the US one to get an idea of what it will actually look like.

Simple with less fancy graphics probably makes for a more solid build & price tool.

Side note, my Jeep cost just a few hundred over $70k CAD (exactly at invoice at the time of pricing, check out my build thread to see my exact build sheet & pricing), which roughly translates to a little over $53k USD. Priced out the exact same Jeep on the US build & price and it came to $60,600, which is an interesting thing to note. Might be worth it for anyone not time pressed & close to the border to order from a Canadian dealer.

Not really a huge difference between 4.56s and 4.88s. I mean there's a difference but not sure it's worth an extra $900 when going with the Xtreme Recon package either? Especially if you never plan on going bigger then 37s. ?‍♂

I don't understand why you can't just order the ratio you want. Why should there be any upcharge? They come with gears, does it really cost the factory extra to put in one vs the other? It's all marketing. Let's withhold part A unless they buy part B. Or let's not offer this upgrade until next year so we can have a new model. We have to place orders to get new jeeps so it would be nice if we could actually get the Jeep we want.
