Hi all,

My 22 JLUR 6mt 4.88's, ordered 11-29, came in on Wednesday 3-8, picked up Thursday and Saturday proceeded to add 35's and a few other things:

With 35's:

Drove the same, one thing to note driving with 33's 1st gear is very short, although not short enough to use 2nd to start in except on a roll, with 35's at least you can get through a intersection without having to shift, also just getting use to it.

Regards,
Jim
Thanks Jim. I have the 2 door with manual on order and was wondering if you could skip 1st gear with 33's. So no lift for 35's?

4.10 to 4.88 is 19% lower, if my math is right.

33" to 35" is 6% increase. So, I think 4.88 will handle 35" or 37" pretty well; better than stock.

Hi,

No lift as won't be seriously off-roaded until it’s paid off, actually have a 80 Toyota pickup for play, also running 35's and 4.88's, go figure

Yeah I was hoping to use 2nd as 1st but the 3.6 doesn't seem to have enough low end torque as have a 07 Ram with a 5.7 G56 six speed, 3.73's and on paper 1st is lower in the JL combo yet the Ram I start in second. So far only a slight rolling 2nd gear start works, but again only at 400 miles so practice makes perfect, lol

Regards,
Jim

Thanks Jim. I had an 04 (I think) with a 5 speed MT and I didn't use 1st gear but that was with straight 6. 1st did seem to be a granny gear and I did have a lower rear end but don't remember what it was. Maybe my two door might be light enough forgo 1st.

Just got my 2 door Rubi with the 4.88's on Monday Waiting on the 35's so driving it a little with the 33's. So far 1st is pretty worthless for me anyway, been starting out in 2nd just fine. It holds 6th no problems into the wind uphill at highway speeds. 4th gear is fun at 35-45, at least zipping around the lake road yesterday. 1st gear crawls, reminds me of the granny 1st in old farm trucks. Haven't had it in 4lo yet, probably be like a tractor, lol.

I have a '22 JLUR with the 6mt and 4.88, 1st is super low, but like others have said the 3.6 doesn't have enough low-end torque to start in 2nd. It can be chaotic trying to merge into traffic from a standstill as first isn't tall enough to really get going but can't start in second. What I end up doing is start a slow roll in first right before my merge window and then quickly shift into second and hammer it to get into traffic. I've got just over 5k miles on it.
4lo in first is so low I can't stall even if I just pop the clutch with no gas. I took a video for my buddy with the jeep crawling along and got out and walked next to it.
I'll stick with the stock tires for now, but in the future I'll be going with a 2.5" lift and 37's. My only gripe with the 6mt and 4.88's is the terrible mpg I get on the interstate. Around town I'm in the mid 18's to the low 19's but on the interstate I'm lucky to be at 17 usually around 15. Granted that is what the computer is telling me, but when I hand calculate it's usually really close.
