I had the same issue with an additional symptom, mine had a delay and hard shift into reverse as well. Had to go several times(including the valve body replacement you are doing) but they eventually replaced the trans and I'm good now. Good luck.

I have a 24 Rubicon X and feel something similar to what others are stating here between 3 and 4th gear. They check it today and it has no codes and they reset the transmission to relearn. It’s not so much a hard shift but if I drive with minimal input on the gas and let it change gears once it gets to 3rd it will sometimes feel like it hangs a bit or almost ā€œfeels likeā€ it’s shifting twice before you see the actual number change to 4. Sometimes it does not do it at all in fact seems like 90 percent of the time it doesn’t or if I am giving it more gas it does not seem to do it. Additionally I’ve tried to recreate it multiple times with manual mode and the change from 3 to 4 is smooth as silk which makes me wonder if it’s an actual mechanical issue with the transmission itself or engine management system of power or something that’s confusing it a bit. For now I’m just gonna put some miles on it and see what it does. I only have about 950 miles for now. All other gears seem perfect. I only notice it on the upshift from 3 to 4.

how does it feel when you shift from P to R? I had to get my entire transmission replaced and it started with slight symptoms like you’re describing. Eventually the shifts became violent to the point it was like the jeep was bucking. And shifting into reverse resulted in a really weird delayed ā€œclunkā€ where the jeep would appear to drop low and make an awful sound.

I have not experience a hard shift or clunk from park to reverse really. Definitely no delay of any kind. My driveway is on incline so maybe a little sometimes but all of our cars seem same in that regard. All my gears shift smooth as silk including 3rd to 4th but sometimes depending on how I’m driving it may be a little more abrupt feeling. Oddly it never feels that way if I manual shift which would make me think the from a mechanical standpoint nothing is wrong. I wonder if it’s more engine management or something. I do have Rubicon X so it is mild lift with 35s but I had a High Tide and never had any concern although that engine was etorque which I believe provides shift smoothing. 80-90 percent of time my shifts are smooth but at least once a drive it accelerates up in rpm and then kind of almost feels like it’s shifting and then had a sudden burst of fuel and goes up a little more in rpm and then completes its shift. And only in that gear. I had reset yesterday so driving it for a while to see what it does. Hoping it gets better over time. My wife think I have gone crazy and maybe I have but when you spend 68k it’s a bit annoying at 1000 miles. I’ve already had egr valve replaced at 200 miles and although petty a trim piece for the mirror since it rattles. I guess for 68k you expect things to work at least for a while right lol. I love my Jeep so I guess that’s where the frustration is. No one wants to be hanging out at the dealer all month. Oddly I just went through a painful process of about 4 dealer trips on a brand new 4Runner TRD Pro they could not get balanced or aligned and I gave up on it.

Anyone that has had the valve body replaced, did it fix the issue? Having mine done this coming Monday. Curious how many have fixed the issue vs. needing a complete new transmission. Thanks.

Good question. I haven't heard of it working.

Made my appointment for mid-May to get mine checked out. It's sporadic, but it's there. I had it happen at about 35mph today.

I have an appt May 1st for mine as well. I had a couple of days of the shifting being flawless. Now it's back with a vengeance. The bucking and slipping between 3rd and 4th is pretty bad.

Yes you are right. I have heard about the level bring low causing issues. Even by a little. Should be at the drain plug level right? Stick a finger in?

Yes. Typical for fluid "cases". Level ground, a little should run out of the side fill plug.

Update….got my ā€˜24 Wrangler Rubicon JLU back from the dealer after a few days of them checking out the auto transmission issues. Disappointing but expected, I unfortunately got the courtesy and standard feedbackā€¦ā€We checked it out, I drove it, tech drove it and the sales person drove it. It is functioning normally. The fluid levels are good and no evidence of contamination.ā€ Either there is incompetence or they are complicit in addressing the issue. This was the second time taking it in. For spending $70K, you expect more. I have owned 6 Jeep and the last 4 all had the same transmission…it is not functioning as normal. Too bad and expect more. No more options but to start a Lemon Law process…unfortunately have to escalate. Means another trip to the dealer and more time have to spend on this.

Forgot to add…there was zero evidence anyone checked the fluid or even touched the transmission pan.

That's a bummer. Mine really acts up on an incline and down shifting, the bucking and slamming into gear is the worst. Try to go with the tech on the test drive.
