I just purchased a 2024 Wrangler after a month or so of casual researching, etc. I went with a four door Wrangler Sport S, 3.6 V6, automatic. The chase is half the fun. Anyhow one thing I noticed. With the V6 the auto transmission is a $4,500 option, with the I4 the auto transmission is a $2,500 option. A manual transmission is not available with the I4 so how can an auto transmission be optional? And why the price difference? Inquiring minds want to know??

I've been monitoring the pricing trends of the automatic transmission (specifically, the 850RE) since 2020, when I originally decided to order my 2021 JLU.

As for the line item price of the 8-speed auto, it has and will likely continue to vary according to the point in time when the customer orders his Jeep, as well as the engine that it is paired with. Concerning the latter, I agree with the conventional forum widsom that FCA and now Stellantis uses the pricing difference (e.g., $4.5K vs. $2.5K) to incentivize the buyer to purchase the engine for which the automatic transmission will cost less. That is and has been the 2.0T.

The 2.0T doesn't have a three pedal option because that engine has a torque rating that exceeds the operational limit of the Aisin 6-speed installed at Toledo. That's why the row-your-own option is limited to the Pentastar, with its lower maximum torque output. It's also why I didn't think of the $1.5K line item cost for the 850RE in my 2.0T-equipped Jeep as a factory option, since there wasn't any choice in the matter.

Look at it as a 'gas' tax...The 2.0 is more fuel efficient per ratings and with government mandated fleet MPG requirements, this is likely a way to encourage folks to select the 2.0.

From when I was looking to buy it seemed the rubicon’s AT was 4500 bucks and for the other models 2500

When I ordered my '24 2-door Ruby-X the AT was $4500 if you selected the 3.6 and $2500 with the 2.0, however you had to select the 2.0 if you wanted the 35" tire package...Now they have 'paused' the 35" tire package on new orders of '24 2-door Ruby-X.
Jeep's ordering policies certainty make a lot of sense...

Yeah it drove me crazy the flip flopping they kept doing. I wanted a MT then they froze it, then opened it up. , then only can get 2.0 then they stopped that cuz they only had those engines for the EV I gave up and went to the lotts for areas of ordering and found what I thought I wanted lmao

Yup, with the lots pretty full around and deals to be had that is a good strategy...Unless you want a 2-door with the 35" tire package and then back to ordering. Good news is mine is scheduled to be built next week, unless they push it out again. Fingers crossed!
