Jeep engine: 600 - 6000rpm with constantly varying loads and rpm. 4 stroke, the oil lubes the crankcase and cylinders.I was watching a video the other day about the engines on the large freighters and it said that the oil in the engine lasted for the life of the engine.
Freighter engine; ~100rpm for days at a time. The eternal oil engine in question is likely a two stroke so there is crankcase oil and there is cylinder lube. Saying the engine oil lasts the life of the engine is misleading - The crankcase oil may get topped off but never changed, so is "lifetime", however the cylinder lube is total loss (injected into the cylinder) and they go through tons of it in the life of an engine.
