The wife recently picked up a 2022 JLU Sahara about 5-6 weeks ago. 29k miles, 2.0. One thing we've noticed is that the auto stop / start isn't functional (I'm not complaining, but it is odd). You can push the button and it lights up like normal, but it doesn't actually do anything and the Jeep never auto stops / starts at any point no matter whether the button is pushed or not. I've looked into several things (wearing seatbelt, sensor under hood, etc), but none check out. Anything else to check to make sure there isn't something physically wrong?

I know when I had an f150 if you were towing a trailer or had a brake light plugged into the trailer plug the start/stop would not work. Have not really tested it on my JL.. but here are a few other things to check.

Driver’s seat belt is not buckled.
- Driver’s door is not closed.
- Battery temperature is too warm or cold.
- Battery charge is low.
- The vehicle is on a steep grade.
- Cabin heating or cooling is in process and an acceptable cabin temperature has not been achieved.
- HVAC is set to full defrost mode at a high blower speed.
- HVAC set to MAX A/C.
- Engine has not reached normal operating temperature.
- Engine temperature too high.
- The transmission is not in a forward gear.
- Hood is open.
- Transfer case is in 4L or Neutral.
- Brake pedal is not pressed with sufficient pressure.
- Accelerator pedal input.
- Vehicle speed threshold not achieved from previous auto-stop.
- Steering angle beyond threshold. (ESS Models Only)
- ACC is on and speed is set.
- Vehicle is at high altitude.
- System fault present.

The only possible option on that list would be the last item. Would that give a CEL? There is no CEL present.

ESS defaults to ON after each start (light off), press button (light on) to disable ESS. Scroll through EVIC screens, should tell you why ESS is not working.

Light is off by default, but can push the button and it does light up as normal. Press it again and it turns off as normal. But the actual system never operates (had it for 5-6 weeks now and put a couple thousand miles on it). Never once has the Jeep shut off as it should. I'll have to check into what the EVIC screens are. First time hearing about this.

If you just got it in winter, it might be because of how cold it is outside. I have a 2018 2.0 eTorque and mine will go days and even a week or so saying ESS is unavailable because the 48v battery is charging, if the outdoor temp is below 40. When it gets into the 50s/60s, the battery stays charged and the ESS operates as it should.

Was the 2.0 eTorque with the 48v battery a thing in 2022?

In addition to everything that's been said, it's likely that your battery(ies) is(are) shot and need to be replaced. Yes there are 2, and both should be replaced. If you only replace the main 12 volt, then the ESS 48v should be bypassed. Many threads on this subject.

It's been upper 60's here this week so I truly don't think it's weather related. Etorque was not a thing in 2022.

I'll look into that. It's a 2022 with 29k miles so still has the bumper to bumper warranty. Hopefully batteries are included in that.

Likely, but your stealership may only want to replace the main, or worse tell you everything is fine.
