To the contrary. A wider tire on a skinny rim will hold a bead much better than a wide wheel. They used to be called a poor mans bead lock. There isn't anything inherently dangerous about it. It will just not wear as well or get the proper contact patch until lower pressures.
One of the dumbest things I've heard is the liberals and this impeachment inquiry.

...this post however TRUMPS it.
(Pun was so intended it's not even funny)

It’s called a poor man’s beadlock...it’s a thing. He is also right about contact patch, lowering pressure down and chalk testing can resolve that issue.

They only issues the OP will have is the proper backspacing for a sport. He will need to either run new wheels, or spacers for steering clearance.
Being “poor” is rarely the start for good advice...

The bottom line is, tire manufacturers publish recommended wheel widths, and 7.5” falls outside the recommended width for most 35” tires.

BFG KO2 35 bruh?
There is so much misinformation spread by a few select people on this forum, it can get frustrating at times. There are a lot of people who intentionally do this so they can air down to a lower psi without losing a bead. Still falls within spec for “most” tires.

Manufacturer's website... versus discount tire. I know which one I am going to trust.

Only 35” tire you can safely clear on stock wheels (without wheel spacers) are the 35x11r18 Duratracs (285/75r18), but these are still 18” stock Sahara wheels, 35s won’t happen on stock 17” wheels. See it on mine below.

Funny enough, years ago Discount Tire itself refused to mount 35x12.5 General tires on my factory 7.5-wide Rubicon wheels because they fell below the manufacturer’s recommendation.

IMO Quadratec offers the best selection of 35”-friendly wheels for Wrangler owners. Their own line of Quadratec wheels offer the right specs —17x8.5 and 5.2 backspacing— to Wrangler owners looking to mount 35” tires with little concern for rubbing or popping a bead.

What he said, ive been running offroad tires on factory wheels for near 40 years. Ive run wheels as wide as 12 and hated them. They are a poor mans beedlock. If you dont run below about 14 psi they are fine. It takes less psi on a narrow wheel to get good wear. It suits a jeep better. I admit im no rock crawler being from Florida. But ive crawled over a many huricane blown tree in the trail with never a broke bead.

I don’t think the rating is a safety issue as much as a treadwear issue. Discount will install and warranty them, so if you’re comfortable running them I really don’t see a problem. This whole thing has been discussed pretty thoroughly. There may be some helpful info in there for those who are interested.

Which is a good recommendation actually.

But they dont have any say or recommendation for tires or tire size(other than psi for factory tires).

That part is up to you.

Listen, you can do whatever the heck you want it's your prerogative...but dont keep reaching for something other than fact.

Good luck
