I personally don't like keeping the SGW bypassed permanently, but to each their own. I also tried that holder; the 3D printing was pretty poor with visible gaps between a couple of the layers. When I attached it to the pictured screw, when I put my plastic trim/cover back on it snapped at one of the layers with a gap.Buy the ECRI module, the holder and no need to use extension cables. Unplug once and plug into ECRI. Now anytime you want to make adjustments or even clear a cel no need to remove the cables.
I had no issues with mine in the 2 years I’ve had this setup. I know 3D can be hit and miss. Definitely sounds like you got a bad one. I don’t mind mine being permanently bypassed since I don’t use the dealer for anything. I use an independent if I need work done I can’t do.I personally don't like keeping the SGW bypassed permanently, but to each their own. After seeing this image I understand why some of the threads said getting to the gateway was going to be a pain. I don't have that module behind the diagnostic connector or the amplifier (?) to the right of the SGW. Mine is a no-option Sport; it took me longer to get the camera to focus for the pic I posted of the connectors than to disconnect them.
Mine split between two layers and I sent a pic and the Etsy vendor ClickonPC immediately sent another one no chargeI personally don't like keeping the SGW bypassed permanently, but to each their own. That pic is easy compared to the 2024 arrangement. Green arrow points to the SGW connectors, red arrow points at the black bar that seems new in 2024, blue arrow points to alpine premium system amp. That said, I managed to get them out, put in an extension cable, and never again. After seeing this image I understand why some of the threads said getting to the gateway was going to be a pain. Ran out of daylight so I didn't get to install the tires, but at least I know I can get to the SGW very easily in my JL.
Thanks again for all of the help and quick replies!
. Once that was in, I fired up the Jscan and toggled the paddle shifters on for him since he put in a 392 wheel. Definitely glad I got the extension cables, since we never know what the future holds for us and what mods we might decide to add down the road. Hi there, if you take your jeep to a dealership and before that you unplug the stock SGW cable from the back of the OBD2 port, and just leave it hanging hidden for next time use with the bypass OBD2 adapter cable, will the dealer still can do a diagnostic? It depends how much you like cursing, bruising your hands, and contorting your body in unimaginable ways to disconnect the SGW connectors from their origninal location.
EDIT Although I will say that the 2018 are much easier to access than the 2024's, but still a PITA. But NO, you do not need the extension cable. It just makes life easier the next time you need to connect.
