I think 1495 is supposed to be the combined price for Alpine + the high-end Uconnect (as opposed to the $2590 if you combined the two prices without knowing that they largely overlap).
1495 includes everything, 8.4 and alpine. Pretty good deal when you start adding nav to other cars alone

Absolutely getting the infotainment package for the speaker upgrade, well worth it, and the Sirius XM Gaurdian. I want to remote start my Jeep from anywhere when it's hot enough for Air to be cranked or cold enough to get it warmed up before I get in.

So I was getting out of my Charger and realized the stock system is Alpine. Looking further into it I discovered it is only a 6 speaker, 276 watt system. However, I've been super happy with it and think it sounds just fine to me.

So that means 1 of 2 things. Either:
1) I get the upgraded Alpine with 552 watts and get absolutely blown away...orrrr
2) I get the stock system and end up happy with it because apparently I don't know the difference between good audio and bad audio lol

I skipped the infotainment system. Id rather use my phone's navigation. Also, I have a set 4 brand new JBL GTO 638 speakers I had bought for another car but never installed. Those will go into the JL now.

This will be my first Wrangler, so I do not pretend to be an expert, but I would venture to guess the Charger is better soundproofed and that system has less to overcome.

Hah yeah I'd say so. Will be my first Wrangler as well so I don't know what I'm up against yet in terms of outside sound and the stock system

Chances are your Charger has Infinity Speakers.

yes but the gps on you phone doesn't work without a cell signal I think. at least on my apple iphone last year camping it didn't. so for me the dedicated gps is the ticket. I'll the alpine as a bonus.

Just download the maps. Then you don’t need cell service, it’ll use the internal GPS on your phone.... with that said I’m getting the infotainment but mostly for the larger screen, better audio, and guardian... I doubt I’ll use any nav beside my phone.

Having gone through this dilemma MANY times over the years, I have learned that it’s nice to have an in dash navigation system when your phone goes to shit for no reason. Might not be as fast as Waze but at least you’ll never get lost or have to ask for directions.

Additionally works when you are in BFE and no cell coverage.

Any ideas on how the base radio on the Sport sounds? We arent that big into music listening but do so from time-to-time.

I keep hearing that at volume there is distortion. Could that be a result of poor factory speakers? Decently good aftermarket speakers are fairly cheap as an DIY upgrade. Is the standard head unit woefully under-powered?

The only comparison I know is in my 2015 Dodge Caravan which has the radio that appears identical to the 430 radio in the JKs. It sounds plenty good too me. If stock JL radio is as good then I'm good.

My wife only cares about back-up camera and the base radio has it. I guess i can't see myself financing another $1000 for the 7" upgrade and we use GPS on our phones too with a simple dash-mount.
