The Alpine system I had in my 2015 2dr JK was fantastic. Going from that to the base 4dr 2016 was like going from a live concert to AM radio.
I'm not a huge audiophile anymore, but for my use the JK Alpine was more that good enough. I found myself making it a point to listen to music where I usually listen to podcasts on my daily commute.

I am doing it for the built in Alpine sub and speakers.

I also could care less about in-dash GPS.

Yeah when I first made this thread, I didn't realize the Alpine was part of it....also didn't know how good the Alpine was. But after hearing only positive things about it, I may have to splurge as well.

You can get the Alpine with the 7” for $200 less, but you might as well go all out for that difference.

I was going to get the infotainment system when it was listed for the same price as the Alpine upgrade. Now that it’s another $200 for something I’ll most likely never use I’m debating. It might depend on the Off-road Pages and how good that is. I can live without regular Nav and SeriousXM and the extra inch of screen. I don’t plan on selling it so resale benefit doesn’t concern me. I’m getting the alpine upgrade for sure.

Curious if anyone else is passing on the Infotainment system? Essentially I only see it as an extra inch of screen and a built in navigation that will never be used by me.

I'll take the 7 inch with Android Auto. If you've ever used the Android Auto (or Apple) through Uconnect, I find it superior to any navigation system out there. Yes you have to hook up your phone, but its interface is perfect with Spotify, Google Maps for navigation or even the use of Waze. Just figure I will save the $1,495 here and use it on something else.
I am getting the 7" display with the tech pkg in my sport S and was wondering if while your phone is plugged in to the Uconnect system does it run off battery power or power from the usb?

Do you not get the off road pages with the technology group that’s standard on the rubicon? My dealer thought you did. That would be stupid to not put on your most serious off road model. I don’t want to spend $1300 just for the off-road pages either but may have to rethink it....I guess I would also get the self dimming mirror....

It charges your phone while it is plugged in. It is running off battery from your car.

If you use Android Auto/Google Maps, does it use the GPS on the Jeep or your phone?

It uses the GPS from your phone....so Google Maps or Waze on Android. I have the 8.4 Uconnect on my Charger with NO GPS. But the Uconnect takes the GPS from the phone and displays it on the screen. It's really intuitive and easy to use.

Bummer, I wish it would use the antenna on the Jeep so you could put the phone in the center console and not have to worry about reception.

I don't care about in-dash GPS, and would normally go aftermarket (and perhaps DIY) for audio, but the Wrangler is such an odd vehicle that I'm leaning toward the Alpine. I'm intrigued that it's equalized for both top on and top off, and has ANC, even if skeptical about real world performance. On the downside, I'd rather not have rear speakers, in lieu of better front speakers for the same money. For that matter, I'd rather have better woofers, and no subwoofer. But I realize they could never sell that package, so no complaints.

This is one package that seems quite reasonably priced, although a dealer quoted me at $1495 MSRP, not $1295. I don't know which is correct.

$1495 is what is in the ordering system

I think 1495 is supposed to be the combined price for Alpine + the high-end Uconnect (as opposed to the $2590 if you combined the two prices without knowing that they largely overlap).

After looking into it, I don't think anything changed with the system, which sounds like a good thing.

JL:
-Alpine
-All Weather Premium Sound System
-9-speaker system (side-mounted round sub in Unlimited being the exception instead of race track in the floor)
-552W
-Active noise cancellation new??

JK:
-Alpine
-All Weather Premium Sound System
-9-speaker system
-552W
