Just playing around tonight if you have a Roku box or Roku TV they have reruns of the Rat Patrol... Been awhile since I watched the Jeeps flying over, the Sand dunes of North Africa!

“Rat Patrol” sounded better than “ Long Range Desert Group” :)

British/ Commonwealth unit, used trucks until the US entered the war and supplied Jeeps.

Up until a few month ago, there was a station in Allentown, Pa. that aired old reruns of that show every Saturday night, along with "Combat", and "12 O'Cloch High". If we had nothing going on, we'd watch it. I remember seeing all these shows al a little kid, and was surprised when we stumbled across them.

I love the old Jeeps. Barebones and crude as a stone axe, but dead nuts reliable (and could be rebuilt with a pair of vice grips and a screwdriver?). Dad was in China in WW2. Told about a driver taking the captains Jeep across a bamboo pedestrian bridge that had been built after the real bridge was bombed out. Bridge swayed, Jeep fell off in about 7 ft of water. They winched it out, drained all the fluids, changed the plugs and got it going again. It was still running 18 months later when he left for home?

Appropriate repeat— “It did everything, It went everywhere, Was as faithful as a dog, as strong as a mule, and as agile as a goat. It constantly carried twice what it was designed for and still kept going”— Ernie Pyle, ? Oh yea— hammer and bailing wire also handy. ?

Fun to watch as a kid! However not real world, i.e. gas cans on hood for shelter, 30s above your ears.

Ae you saying that guns mounted on jeeps is unrealistic? In the '70s we had M151s with M60 .30 cal machine guns mounted between the seats, M2 .50 cals, 106mm recoilless rifles, and TOW missile systems - all mounted in the M151 "jeeps" ... and that's part of why I'm now receiving disability pay for service-connected hearing loss!

Previous posted pic of “Long Range Desert Group” with gas cans on hood, windshields removed and machine guns ( Lewis Guns, Vickers 303, later Browning 30’s and 50’s) mounted both in front and behind them is a real actual pic. ………. Running up jets to after burner was a bit loud too, they supplied Mickey Mouse ear muffs, deaf for days after one. ??

Exactly. I wouldn't want to sit under that!

I liked 151s. The Mutt. Shame they couldn't get DOT certified.

My profile picture is another one from Rat Patrol. I can remember watching the reruns of the show in the 70's or 80s. Great show...
