I know some people hate the fact that Jeepers like to duck.

But, as someone who is new Jeep owner, it's something fun to see that someone appreciates my rig.

My dad is in the hospital and has been for over a week. I go to see and stay with him every day for a while between my fulltime job and my parttime job and being a wife. And when I come out to my Jeep, it makes me smile to see a duck sitting on it. So as someone who is in a place often full of sadness, it's a nice little pick me up to see after a long day. I have ducks in the back that I give out too...it makes me feel good that someone else is getting appreciation.

Try not to get mad when you might see an unwanted duck on your Jeep. You never know what the person who gave it to you is going through...it might just be the one thing that makes them feel good that day.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. My wife’s in education so she regifts ducks to students or at Halloween. Sometimes our Boxers get them. Not my thing but no hate either.

I used to have a couple ducks I kept in my Jeep to duck other nice jeeps with if I happened to park near one, but honestly all the unreasonably angry people on Jeep forums who seem to think ducking is worse than Hitler have kind of ruined it for me and I don't really feel inclined to participate anymore. I wouldn't mind getting ducked someday though.

Wrangler culture has really changed, and so has off-roading culture. Really felt it in Moab this year, people are just a lot less respectful and/or courteous on trails.

On-road, seems like just about everybody drives angry and/or like a terrorist, so no real change there. Always gets me when another Wrangler owner is tailgating or acting like a jerk in traffic. Lighten up, geez, you're in a Jeep!

I think (hope?) most people “against it” are joking or trying to keep up their badass internet persona. I see anger on both sides so 🤷 Not trying to restart the argument it’s already been beat to death, buried, exhumed for a forensic autopsy and buried again. RIP.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, and I hope he makes a quick recovery from whatever he may be in the hospital for.

I could live with or without ducking, but in my opinion, people that "hate" it have deep-rooted issues and should seek professional help. There's much bigger things in life to bitch about.

Sure, the ducking may not be for everyone but I appreciate it when it happens and I always feel good when I do it myself. That's the whole point isn't it? To make others feel better in this crazy world we live in? And it seems Jeeps are the only vehicles to do that in. No other vehicle I can think of allows you to demonstrate your kindness/generosity to other strangers other than a Jeep. Aside from the Volkswagen Beetle or Mini Cooper, it's one of few vehicles that truly has a personality.

I also appreciate the origin of ducking culture, although it wasn't started under the best circumstances. Doing some research, I found out it all started at the height of the pandemic when a Jeep owner by the name of Allison Parliament witnessed a woman at a gas station getting assaulted. In order to make the victim feel better, she bought some ducks in the convenient store and left one on their car along with a note saying, "Have a Great Day." Ever since then, it became a viral sensation in the Jeep community. I think that's wonderful. Like I said, not started under the best circumstances but the gesture really goes a long way.

Sorry for the history lesson. I'm confident most of you already know the backstory but it's worth mentioning again, especially to the haters that tend to forget the historical significance of it.

One of the complaints I've heard is specifically that some Jeep owners are very territorial and feel personally violated if a stranger touches their Jeep.

"This isn't just a car, it is a 1961 Ferrari 250GT California, less than 100 were made 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport S. My father spent three years restoring this car I spent 7 seconds smashing the fender flare back on yesterday."

I have only gotten a couple of ducks in the four years I have had my JLUR. I don't feel like handing them out, but I'm not mad if I get one and don't understand the hate. Not sure I would line a bunch up on the dash if I got more, at that point I would probably give some away and just keep 2 or 3.
