I ordered a couple Purolater A21421 air filters for my 2018 3.6L, from Amazon. They look a lot like the Wix that's in there now. The foam seal looks like the same material. The color of the filter media looks the same as well. I'll pull the Wix later and do a side by side comparison.

The Purolater filters have about 10.5 pleats per inch and about 11 3/8" of pleated media. I don't have a Mopar filter around to compare.

this is a mopar and it is exactly the same as the Wix so probably all made about the same..i counted 11-12 pleats per inch but those are hard to count...Purlator has a good reputation.

There have been a number of posts on BITOG about Mopar filters being Mann-Hummel/Purolator/Wix (all of which are the same company). Everything I've seen corroborates this. I picked up 2 Purolator A21421 filters for $18 ea on Amazon. The Mopar labeled filter is $40

The Purolator air filter (first pic in OP's post) is an aesthetic clone of the Mopar filter. While I tend to use OEM as a matter of personal preference, I'd have no qualms about using a quality aftermarket part such as what's pictured.

I bet more than aesthetic as both made in mexico I bet they are exactly the same.

Yes, they are. The inkjet printer just switches between Mopar, Wix and Purolator codes. (Last assembly stage before packaging.)

Anyone ever try one of these life time air filters. I'm thinking about it.

The K&N is $64.99

Not specifically for a JL. I've run them on various vehicles over the years. I would not be a buyer again. I found that they let a lot more dirt through than a factory type paper element. I could see the dirt in the intake system.

The K&N high flow filters achieve their high flow by not filtering fine particles. Great if you only care about a quarter mile track speed, bad if you care about engine longevity. Given the conditions that Jeeps are used in I'd say it's an exceptionally bad option.

Project Farm demonstrated this quite clearly. Good 0-60 times, laughably bad filtering performance.

I'm thinking about staying away from these type of filters now. 👍

Until recently, I was a loyal K&N oiled cotton engine air filter user for more than 25 years. Then I reviewed the warranties (on any type of filter) from AMSOIL, FRAM, K&N, Mobil 1 EP, MOPAR, PUR / Transit Auto (sold by Walmart), Royal Purple, Super Tech (a Walmart brand), and WIX.

The AMSOIL, FRAM, Mobil 1 EP, and WIX warranties cover damage to other parts caused by a faulty filter.

The warranties on the other aftermarket brands listed above, including K&N, do not cover damage to other parts. Products sold under these brands have an implied warranty (product-replacement or money-back), or the equivalent of an extended implied warranty (same deal, longer time), in the U.S.

For DIY installation, MOPAR (see Mopar Basic Limited Warranty) does not cover damage to other parts. The MOPAR warranty does cover damage to other parts, for 24 months, if the part is installed by a dealer.

Mileage, micron rating, and surface area are important, but a warranty on damage to other parts shows confidence in performance and indicates a low failure rate.

For warranties that cover damage to other parts on fluids & filters, see my post on Warranty Coverage.
